SECRETS of the ‘TO DO’ and CDI Updates for March 2025!
Good morning. I see new readers from Sweden, Switzerland, Poland and more. I want to welcome you here as I sip the hazelnut coffee and reflect back on the week of an artist. Actually a tribe of artists who are working to stay the course while the world evolves. I like to say that if the world went to “hell in a hand basket” Tribe CDI would be pulling a wagon doing puppet shows for can goods. The world just like ourselves could benefit from better communication skills. You see it on the highest levels and it trickles down to the smaller more intimate exchanges.
This past week was extremely productive and I plan to have this new month follow in those same footsteps. One of the SECRETS I use is to truly use a checklist of TO DO’s for each endeavor. I have some that still show up without a legal pad, notebook or even a tablet. Things are fresh in the moment but can easily be lost in the static of life. I have multiple things going past, present and future and my lists help keep it all in step. If you don’t use a list maybe try it for a week or two and see if your productivity increases. You can prioritize what needs to be done and when. It becomes satisfying to cross things off your list. Try it. You might like the results.
UPDATES!
- Harsens Island Revenge (HIR) master file was delivered and I’m told that our theatrical file was done as of yesterday. We are looking to see if it can be delivered digital or if it has to be in person. Shane Hagedorn is communicating with the Alpena theater to see if they can accept a digital send. He is also looking to set up our premiere and theatrical date. So if you are reading this and you’re from the area now is the time to start calling and letting them know your interest. End of March or start of April is looking like our kick off.
- HIR – More We are looking to pen our deal with our theatrical partners this week and discuss all the other venues. I know we’ll be moving around Michigan and I think folks will really enjoy the film. It is slick with some great action and romance all woven into some cool Michigan history. If you want a preview you can read Karl Manke‘s book of the same name.
- HIR – has a few new trailers that will be rolling out to audiences. We are also discussing a music video as a possibility for one of the participating artists. The theatrical tour will be from March to Sept and we hope to open our home video on 10/1/2025 whereas you can buy a collectors DVD and stream the film.
- Wild Faith Christmas – The 1st solid cut of the film was shown in the studio on Friday and we had tears from one of our test subjects. We are looking at a few some tweaks to be done with our final polishing pass. But those few tweaks aside we have a powerful and emotional follow up to WILD FAITH. I’m very proud of the entire team led by Shane Hagedorn our director.
- I’m polishing the last show of 8 in the first season of the proposed TV series WILD FAITH: HASTINGS. It was such a joy to revisit these stories and adjust them to take place after the second film versus the first one. If the right deal emerges that allows us to keep the creative control we could bring audiences back into the Wild Faith world for eight 44 min shows. If the interest is there the shows will be ready. So my first writing assignment of 2025 is about to be checked off my list.
- Monday we’ll be getting together with Director Travis Hayward and reviewing the first cut of ROM COMS MUST DIE. This dark comedy was filmed in February and thanks to the dedicated editing by DP John McGraw we have a first cut. We’ll look at beats and ideas to tweak and strengthen the film for edit pass two. That said, the film is already so fun to watch. Some sound design and graphic work is already done and I’m very pleased. I had a chance to really cut loose with Adam Towner as a co-star. I’m also extremely pleased at how the story presents itself. It seems twisted and silly on the surface but really has a lot to say about acting, filmmaking and chasing artistic dreams. I think fans of the genre will really be happy with the project.
- We have some concept art for ROM COMS MUST DIE but I’m excited to see a few posters emerge. I’ve also seen sneak peeks of some of the Wild Faith Christmas posters and I’m very excited on that front. We like to have the theatrical poster be a version that pleases the director because once it passes to home video they will create what they feel will connect and sell to audiences best. Ultimately I LOVE lots of poster versions but the first one I like to be one that the director ultimately approves.
- As I come out of the end of the year work with accounting and taxes I’m looking ahead. Development has been underway for a while but I’m starting to zero in on projects. Some already have some momentum. Others are looking to build their foundations. It is a process and like my talks some some good friends who produce at a higher budget level – a film sometimes happens in that story’s own time. I am going to get much more focused here as we get ‘Harsens’ rolling out into theaters also.
- Going hand in hand with what I was writing on above with development is writing. I have a meeting next week on a script for hire. I have a few others circling but it only becomes real with pen meets paper and currency is exchanged. We had one project last year that looked very promising but when it was time for rubber to meet the road – no dice. It happens. But you have to be careful about your time. Some people just don’t work at my pace and that is just fine. But I don’t have the time to take 10 years dancing around and taking meetings for things that don’t evolve.
- Acting. I love acting it is why I go through all the producing work. I’m still behind on getting new reels cut and such. I did finally get some headshots last year but I’m always in motion. By that I mean that I’m often quite busy creating characters. I’ve also been busy filming so even if I had many offers coming in I would still have to be highly selective. I’ve always asked that one role gets me one more role. Maybe that means put your everything into a performance and that should draw you another beautiful opportunity. Audiences are about to meet Axel and Edison and spend time again with ole Ben Lily. What is next? That is a good question. I don’t have an immediate answer so that is really quite exciting.
WRAP UP: You can feel spring in the air and I spent a good amount of the last blog talking about that. Today is going to be quite special because I’m getting a special behind the scenes tour of our local zoo. I’ve always loved that place and I went with my grandfather since I was a toddler. We still enjoy it for birthdays, holidays and such. I had an otter steal my sunglasses before so I might get to see that rascal again. I’m told we’re going to meet the rhino so that will be pretty cool. I would like to explore ways to work with the zoo in the future. I’m so glad that it keeps growing and evolving.
It is still chilly outside and so the wood stove will get a work out tonight at the office. But we’re getting close to that getting a good yearly clean and go silent. I love the crackling of the fire and I pull inspiration from the dancing flames. As noted above we’ll have some great development and production meetings in the weeks ahead. I bottled up the Paw Paw/Rhubarb wine and it was pretty good. We tried it on my dear friends birthday. It takes kind of like a Pineapple Lemonade with a mild punch. I do have an Irish Stout that will be on deck for a late Summer brew and will be enjoyed when the wood stove fire comes alive again.
I’m going to get after some eggs here for breakfast before my zoo adventure. I hope you all are having a great Sunday. Happy Mother’s Day and some EXCITING Film Updates
Hazelnut Coffee Cheers and Happy Mother’s Day! I’m up bright and early because we have a full day ahead of us. Plus I have several good updates to give. Today is a special day because we get to spend it with the mothers. In my seeking of something different we are doing a Victorian style tea today with the moms. It is at a historic mansion house and gardens and it should be fun. I have my tuxedo tee-shirt ready to go. I wanted to also speak into something that people occasionally have where their day is just slightly off. Related to, getting out of the wrong side of the bed. Spilling or tripping over stuff or just a general string of mishaps. Comedy of errors is enough term I’ve heard. I had a few days that felt like that but a 20 min shut down and reboot via nap, meditation or just a chill can sometimes reset things. Many will say that they don’t have time for a 20 min reboot but when productivity is poor sometimes you can’t afford not to take it. Sometimes it is related to eating at the proper times. Lack of coffee can have a day slightly off on occasion also, damn caffeine. Sometimes it is just a string of odd occurrences.
Yesterday I spent the morning feeding the chickens clover tops before mowing the lawn which I did on a high setting to still allow many of the wild food plants to thrive. Our yard is full of color and the smell is wonderful with apple blossoms and lilac scent. I also worked on a new fence to contain our row of raspberries growing. I had a breakfast of a few eggs from our aforementioned chickens and some bacon but the work outside had burnt those quite quickly. My legs are also repairing and recovering from our second soccer match which we won by one goal. A quick shower before off to the zoo with my brother and family. I was needing some energy and went to get into the glove box where ’emergency snacks’ are kept. I realized we were in a dealership loaner vehicle while one of the rides was being fixed. We get to the zoo and the first animal is one of my favorite, the otters. I watched as they were doing back flips and gliding back and forth across the little pool. While trying to get a better look my sunglasses fell off my neck strap and splashed into the pool. The otter was playing with them and we swear trying to wear them. Not wanting the otter to harm himself or choke on them I had to seek out zoo staff. So I waited until the kind lady arrived and the glasses were found discarded in the enclosure. Had to bleach those. Everything worked out as they sold bbq pork sandwiches and so the hunger was squashed. Later that day once home we had planned to grill. I had thawed out some venison burger and pork ribs. We went to get them out of the fridge and found BLOOD all over the fridge. They were sealed and in a glass dish but blood was all over and into the veggie tray and what a mess. A few things had to be thrown out and we were wiping down everything that had this sticky blood…wait. Wait a minute. We discovered a jar of gifted pickled beets had spilled in the fridge, not blood but beet juice. The cookout went better from that moment. But sometimes your days just get off slightly. When it does try the time out and sometimes you just gotta roll right through it. Sometimes that is with work and sometimes that is with personal everyday things. It was not fun while we thought we had blood all through the fridge but looking back it is funny when it turned out to be beet juice.
Onto the film and project updates from this week-
- SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA mastering of the movie for home video delivery was completed. A few adjustments had to be made to the opening credits but otherwise the new enhanced video and audio blended into an amazing film. New end credits were added on with a better layout and smoother scroll. The film is being uploaded tomorrow to the distributor and already they are prepping it for presentation in the marketplace. New DVD and streaming artwork will begin and the sales team will start pitching to platforms and foreign territories. It is gonna be a great upcoming holiday season where folks can sit home with their families and enjoy this wonderful story.
- WILD FAITH is our western era film that has been doing very well for us on most all the platforms. On the distributor’s home video platform ENCOURAGE TV the film has passed the 7 million watches benchmark. This is a wonderful thing because we are working to try and set the TV series up with HASTINGS already having a first season already written. This helps our endeavors to see the TV show launch.
- KNIGHT CHILLS is the second film from the CDI library that we are updating and putting back out to market. The new transfer of the film looks really good. I’ve tried for a few months to wrangle new retro interviews and we’ve gotten a few. I did an interview myself last week and I might try to do a new commentary this week with our composer Dennis Therrian. It will be exciting to see the film in the new enhanced form. After the Blu Ray is finished I will look at getting it prepped to stream. Many interesting extras and fun additions to this early CDI film. Join the Facebook page and follow along.
- HARSENS ISLAND REVENGE – Catering, lodging and location talks continue on the next CDI film to shoot. We’ve been doing more casting and we’ve found our young actress to play the leading ladies daughter and her name is Blu Owens. Also another one of our gangsters was found and his name is Nick Schroeder. I enjoyed talking with him about his early days starting out in this business. Funny how many of our stories have a similar start. I’ll be making intros this week and soon wardrobe can start getting our talent sizes. A cool teaser poster is almost ready to release. It is amazing to see how everything starts to come together. We are awaiting the AD team’s new white script and schedule. From there we can start locking down dates for talent. More sponsorship talks this week as we have many interested in aligning their brands.
- SPIRIT LAKE MASSACRE is getting a polish by yours truly and after I’ll have my amigo Tony Hornus do a second pass. We have some momentum building and will be entering talks with the Spirit Lake museum and we hope we can bring attention and help to their organization also. I was optimistic that the film would shoot in 2024 but it is looking like 2025 since the scope of the project is larger. Funding has to be locked and after locations and casting will take a good part of a year. But we have enough things lining up for 2024 to keep us busy.
- FOR THE LOVE OF CATCH 2 will be the follow up to the documentary we did that showcases the amazing history of the grappling style known as the Catch-Can style. Our next one in the series will go more in depth is about the military history and use in hand-to-hand combat. We will be meeting over this next documentary this week and try to get this one rolling. Thank you to everyone who has watched the first one.
- We have a few CDI “in association” projects being considered for production in 2024 and we’ll see which of those becomes solid as we move forward.
- I need to check in and see where we are with IN THE WOODS which is getting a new edit from a new transfer and from what I hear is pretty amazing. Again this was my first starring role back in the 90’s and it will be exciting to see this new version. I hear a theatrical special play might be in the works before the Blu-Ray and other extras.
WRAP UP:
We are going to do a stop at the flea market this morning before coming home and getting ready for Mother’s Day tea. I’m excited to spend some time with my momma who was recently on vacation in Las Vegas. As we talked about in the opening of this chat- everyone has off days so sometimes you can hit that reset and sometimes you have to power through it. Sometimes things look ready bad and it turns out to be beet juice. Sometimes things aren’t perfect and you might need to do a little extra work to achieve that near perfection. I say ‘NEAR” because is there any true perfection or is that just a subjective view point?
I’m ready to attack the new week ahead with some great pre-production meetings. Most casting and crewing work along with more lodging and catering talks. Get in the habit of consistently building towards your goals and watch how you suddenly find yourself there. I’m going to get around this morning and do a few things before heading out prop looking. I’m going to refill the old coffee cup and get at it. If your momma is no longer with you light a candle and have some good memories. If your momma is still with you enjoy the day and express your gratitude. My mother brought me into this world and I’m so glad she did. I think life is pretty special. She is credited for everything I’ve done and I love her more than she could ever know.

Happy Mother’s Day – May CDI Updates
Happy Mother’s Day to all the nurturing ladies out there. It is a slightly chilly Sunday coming off several wet days here in Michigan. The lawn needs a second mowing and I still have to till the garden ground.
This past week has included lots of development work on LOST HEART our next film. We have the last three units to assign before we move into full pre-production. We’ve had several talks and I think the last three will get claimed soon. It also helps that we will be dispersing money back to previous investors. For me, once we lock up the business we can focus on the creative. I had some schedule discussions this week with our 1st AD. It looks like we will shoot July 16-Aug 1st in N. Michigan. In about 2 weeks (or sooner) we’ll start bringing on cast and crew. The bank account is open and I’m awaiting the check book. Once we green light to pre-production the ball will really start rolling. We’ll also be announcing some of the great companies and businesses supporting us with sponsorship. It will be an exciting week ahead for LOST HEART.
We have also had some development discussions on KNIGHT CHILLS 2 which has been in talks for a while. This would be a collaboration and I’ve been working to set up the distribution aspects of the film.

THE QUEST TRILOGY – The entire 3 film series in out on Amazon Prime. You all can now watch all three back to back. FORTY NIGHTS. CHASING THE STAR. THE CHRIST SLAYER. Please do enjoy this extended biblical adventure. I’ve said before that the style was influenced by the Star Wars original trilogy. I look forward to hearing from more of you that have seen all three. They do stand alone but create a greater picture when all three are viewed. Congrats to part 3 THE CHRIST SLAYER for taking 2nd place BEST FILM at the International Christian Film Festival in Orlando, FL.
- I have several sources talking to me about a new series of biblical adventures. We will see what the future holds.
WILD FAITH is now out on Amazon and other platforms for digital purchase. In June we’ll see digital rental and July will be the DVD release. Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Family Video and several outlets will be carrying this fine film.

MBF: Man’s Best Friend is finishing up color correction and sound design. A work-in-progress link was sent to the theatrical company for evaluation. I was watching the film now with all the dialog balanced and it is really engaging to watch. Music will be starting soon and we’ll also begin working the new full trailer.
This week I’ll continue my conversations with the possible agent for literary and talent. I’ve also had a few independent script writing opportunities arise. I will be exploring that. I’ve been pulling together my materials both as a writer and as talent. I’ve enjoyed the response from all of you to mountain man Ben Lily and of course ole J.C. from THE CHRIST SLAYER. I’m looking forward to making a deal so that some of my future negotiations concerning acting and script can be handled by a 3rd party.
