CDI FILM UPDATES and Challenges of a Low Tech Person Surviving in a High Tech World
(A Simple Man – Ben Lily in WILD FAITH CHRISTMAS)
Hello my friends joining us here. I see new readers last week from Australia, Sweden and India. Hazelnut coffee cheers my friends. We are well into December and the temps here in Michigan have gotten cold. Our Detroit Lions had a heck of a game on Thursday that gave us yet another victory which is nice. We are moving along on editing our most recent WILD FAITH CHRISTMAS adventure. Shane Hagedorn is doing the editing and we have to be about 20 minutes or so into the edit. In the film I felt very comfortable playing trapper Ben Lily. Even though it is 1880 Ben represents a man trying to maintain a place in a quickly changing world. In his world electricity will soon take over the oil lamps and motor cars will start to replace horses. Give Ben a good pistol, knife and horse and he was a happy man. It’s funny that the cycles seem to repeat for every generation.

GENERATION – I just completed the last narration for the audio book series FOR GENERATIONS TO COME by Ronnie Lee. Some of the books and soon the audio books will be available on Amazon. I’ve enjoyed the read that also gives us a peek into the changing of lives throughout the generations. I could really relate but we all can actually. Things from my childhood in the 70’s are now in the Henry Ford Museum.

We had a great session out in the pine studio where Harsens Island Revenge has been having the sound design and musical score done. It’s our 1920’s bootlegging movie based on the book by Karl Manke. We watched the film with all the VFX, sound and music laid in. We saw a few spots that still need mixing and our director is still tweaking the color correction. As I watched all these things underway I was in awe of the technology. It’s funny that some might assume that because I’m a filmmaker that I’m a tech-head which could be nothing further from the truth. My first computer experience in the 70’s was on a TSR-80 that you loaded with a tape player. I played a few games off floppy disks with our family COMMODORE 64 but never learned any programming. I watched others use all these programs to edit, color correct, sound design and compose music and I shake my head at me taking 30 min just to try and change my Facebook Marketplace location to Lansing after somehow getting stuck on a Florida city location. My script writing software MOVIE MAGIC is the first software I was gifted in the 90’s and I’ve stayed with it my entire life. I don’t know all the in’s and out’s but I can make it work. I’ve never made a website and I still can’t wrap my head around file sizes. Anybody else like that out there?

This blog is one of the most tech things I do weekly and I still mess it up often knowing maybe half the functions. I’ve never used EXEL to calculate, for me it’s like old school graph paper. My team has gotten me to a basic level of google use but still I have to have links sent to me all the time. I’m just trying to make it another 30 years if I’m lucky without being swallowed up by a wave of technology. Now AI is entering the game and that is cool if it means in 5 years I can have an R2D2 * unit. (*Star Wars reference) Talking with my attorney this week I’ll eventually I’ll have to move check writing over to auto check writing but as of now I still write hundreds of checks roughly twice a year. Great talk with another friend and his success with crypto. I’m not big into digital and I don’t own any crypto or digital currency and don’t plan to. Nothing against it, I guess I just like to keep it simple. With the editing and the mastering of these film projects using such complex and interesting software it brought these thoughts to the surface. I know I’m not the only one who can’t navigate these complex programs. I can’t even log in properly to my AARP account. I wish I could edit so I could update my actor reels. It has been many films ago since I’ve put anything together. I have played on Instagram making a few reels with music and a few fancy filters and that feels like a success. I really don’t use social stuff except to promote movie stuff daily and keep up with a few friends and relatives. It does help with birthdays! So I wanted those of you out there struggling to keep up with tech to know you aren’t alone. I see others older than I struggle even more although some have a real knack for it all. I still do best with a yellow legal pad, a good pen and a phone that I know how to mostly operate. I’m already several models behind on my phone. As soon as I learn something they change it. - KNIGHT CHILLS plays again in Brooklyn NY at The Spectacle Theater today at 5pm and again Dec 11th (10pm), Dec 14th (Midnight!) and Dec 17th (10pm). On Amazon you can buy the novel. The Blu Ray is for sale also and on 1/31/25 it will start streaming!
- As noted I finished my narration for the last book in the series FOR GENERATIONS TO COME by Ronnie Lee. Look it up it is very interesting!
- SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA our WW2 Christmas drama is playing select theaters in Iowa but started the Algona run this week. It plays until the 12th unless they extend it. It’s also available to stream or on DVD via Amazon. I got some beautiful feedback from folks that had watched it on the big and small screen. We have started a tradition in Iowa and I hope on TV and streaming it becomes one of your traditions.
- I noted that the Harsens Island Revenge screening went beyond great. We need to fix a few credits and do some mixing but it is almost ready for prime time. It really is epic and had some jumping out of their seats with the opening action. We are soon to start working on setting up the Q1 premieres and theatrical runs.
- WILD FAITH CHRISTMAS which as noted above is 20+ minutes into the edit. It’s looking to move into music and sound design in Feb with Nov 1st being our targeted theatrical release goal. The excitement surrounding this film is carrying over as many are going to watch the original. Both are going to be beautiful, heartwarming stories that will highlight the best in humanity.
- December 15th will be the re-release of the HD version of AN ORDINARY KILLER to streaming. Based upon a true tragedy it highlights the dedicated police work over several generations.

- We’ve been doing some final casting on what will be the first directed feature by Travis Hayward and DP by John McGraw! Once that is locked down we’ll start looking at a schedule in Jan/Feb 2025.
- I have two other features being developed and evaluated to go into funding mode. Both are very exciting projects and will be great additions to the CDI family of films. One is a period comedy and the other a historical drama.
- I’m also lining up a few writing projects for the winter season. When it’s cold and icy nothing like a hot coffee or tea and sitting down to pull from my imagination.

WRAP UP: This season has started with much joy. I’ve had a few great reunions with family, friends and our producers reviewing upcoming projects. These projects fill my days and I’m very grateful to be able to do this line of work. When not working on these projects I’m doing general upkeep and organizing. I’ve been turning some of the harvested herbs into oils and tinctures. The most recent was BEE BALM oil. It is good for the skin and any rashes, bug bites and such. I’ve been enjoying SAGE and MINT tea that I harvested. Sometimes I feel I was meant to be born in a more simple time. Maybe the extent of my storytelling years ago would have been around a campfire or maybe on some vaudeville stage. But I was born into this age and I love how many people get to enjoy our collective stories. Our industry is hard. If I was born into the tech world like our youth maybe my actor materials would be stronger because I would be better at doing all this uploads, downloads and such. I’m content to just do what I can do and have faith that I’ll participate in the stories I’m meant to. I no longer yearn for huge projects in far away places. I’m content telling powerful, modest stories with my friends. That’s how it all started back in the day with the VHS camcorder and boom box for the soundtrack. Behind me are the days of shooting on film. A wonderful but stressful tradition I was proud to be part of. And now I do what I’m good at- writing, organizing/managing and becoming. You can’t be great at everything. I just ask people to have patience with me and thankfully my team does. I’m just an old TSR-80 Moving down the Oregon Trail🙂

Welcome to December- Keeping Momentum!

I want to wish a good morning to all my friends around the world who stop on by each week to share in the artistic journey. I’m trying to update and enhance the machine that moves everything round and round. There are so many platforms and the nuances of each one. I don’t do Snapchat or TicTock and many others I’m sure. Facebook has been a good platform to land our different films. Everyone has a page where we post photos and release information. Do me a favor and seek out these films (Use http://www.imdb.com if you need to) and follow them. IF you have not seen the film please do as they were made for you to enjoy. If you enjoyed it please do invite your friends to follow. You can do 1000 invites on a page per day which means for many just a few days of invites. This is how we’ll reach more fans and friends which might be future fans. This is how sequels get made because of the popularity of a particular film. EXAMPLE: Wild Faith has been doing well and so it deserved a follow up sequel. If you want to see a sequel to Man’s Best Friend, Lost Heart or whichever is your favorite you need to help spread the word. I even have a RETURN TO ALGONA film idea about Edward’s return visit to Algona after the war. Watch SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA on select big screens playing in December in Iowa and the surrounding states. The grassroots way is the safest way versus large marketing campaigns that can bring success or large debt.
Releases and Re-Releases- As mentioned above our WW2 Holiday drama is returning to select theaters such as one night at the Boone Theater in Boone Iowa on Dec 16th. Fridley theater in Algona, Iowa is running the film Dec 6-12th. The film showing has been remastered and is worth watching on the big screen. For those unable or unwilling to drive to the theaters it can be watched on Amazon Prime. In a good surprise KNIGHT CHILLS will play five evenings at the Spectacle Theater in Brooklyn, NY on Monday Dec 2nd at 7:30pm, Dec 8th at 5pm, Dec 11th at 10pm, Dec 14th at midnight and Dec 17th at 10pm! http://www.spectacletheater.com for more info. MERCHANDISE – CDI Literary has launched with the KNIGHT CHILLS book on Amazon. The same arrangement with Katharsys Media has my first starring role with Jim Greulich available now IN THE WOODS with three books to accompany the new Blu Ray release. The novel, the making of and the prequel script if you dig sword and sorcery entitled panDEMONium. Plus the CDI EBAY store should be launching today if not within the next 48 hours. I have to check in and see if the Dec 1 launch is going live. For those who know him Big Bart will be supervising the CDI EBAY store.
DOUBLE BARREL – We have two CDI films in the immediate pipeline. One is preparing to release in Q1 2025. Harsens Island Revenge will have its producers review on the end of the week. The final touches are being done and so I’m looking to clink some glasses at the week’s end. From there we’ll put the theatrical deal together and look at a few festival showcases. This Karl Manke book translated so well to the screen. Action, romance and everything in-between. We’ve been in talks with Twin Engines over the home video. We’re looking to set up a series of premiere dates that kick off the theatrical with a certain chain of screens. We are also in talks with potential release sponsors to help this film reach is full potential. We released a spec promo video to thank Pepsi (Seek out the HIR Facebook page to watch it) and we’ll look to see how we can expand on that possibly with some TV play. I’m actively trying to get FORD on board as all the cars seen in the film are FORDS. It will be an exciting 2025.

The second barrel is the WILD FAITH CHRISTMAS that is now into editing. We’re 10+minutes into the film and I’m hearing great things. I’ll let us get 30+ into the edit before I go get a preview. Our goal is to have the film release into theaters on Nov 1st 2025 but that will require a quick edit and for us to move right along on post audio. I think we can do it with Shane Hagedorn at the helm. He does not let grass grow under his feet. I’m looking to have a teaser poster ready in early 2025. We have some amazing photo elements thanks to GW Burns.
KEEPING MOMENTUM– It is very tempting when everything is going good to take your foot off the gas and coast. This must be avoided. While I almost have all the clean up done on Wild Faith Christmas I still have December film disbursements, end-of-year taxes (personal and biz) and 2025 development. You cannot spend a lot of time basking in what you’ve did because there is always more to do. A few of the new developments required.

- Start next book release for the literary deal which will be the Ghost Town book
- Casting is close to complete on the upcoming ROM COMS MUST DIE (Scheduling is next)
- Considering an Adam Towner edited CDI Highlights Reel for the new year!
- Looking at upcoming writing and development projects (currently finishing the Wild Faith Hastings show updates 4 of 8 done)
This list could go on and on but these are a few of the action items. The cold and the snow make it much easier to chain to the desk for script writing and proposals. I am happy to report that the Halloween/Fall stuff did come down and we have a very nice Christmas tree undecorated but in the house. I need to bring the snow shovels out of storage. We have not gotten the huge drop others have but we definitely have snow. I’m trying to get some of the Christmas shopping done and I’ve got a good start on it. Thanksgiving went smooth with us being able to just visit versus host. We have some foster kittens that have been making our upstairs a playground. And they’ve discovered the joy of plants and dirt. Muriel is the name I think we’ve settled on for the one really young kitten who will be joining Sybil as full-fledged members of the house. The chickens community center has been winterized with straw bales and we are still enjoying fresh eggs. Finn (Our youngest dog) has been nursing a toe injury and that has almost healed. I’m thankful he no longer has that cone on with the new tree in the house. He saw it as a battering ram. Anything in his way be damned!

I just finished some 4H bacon, fresh eggs and some dry rye bread. Washed it all down with some great hazelnut coffee. Do you know all the attributes of hazelnut especially amongst the Celtic Druids. The nine hazelnut trees growing around a sacred pool. As the nuts fell into the pool and were eaten by salmon they absorbed the wisdom. There is lots of historical myths which I was introduced too this past week. They also protect against evil. If that is true I should be well protected. I love studying the properties of trees, plants, roots, seeds and berries. Take a read it might be something that interests you as well. I have to go get the wood stove ready to entertain company this eve and into the week. I ended the week with a great meeting with Adam Towner and Curran Jacobs. We drank the last of the Mexican style chili-beer. Now I might have to make the Irish style beer next. Always a good toast for the new year as people come to visit. I’m now going to wrap this up and get after some of those TO DO’s. Do the same with your list and get that early start on 2025. I’m happy the Detroit Lions pulled out a Thanksgiving win. Final Countdown to Filming – Other CDI Updates!
A wonderful morning to everyone out there. I’m sipping on the ole hazelnut java and looking forward to spending a few moments with all of you. Next week this time will be day one of pre-production on WILD FAITH CHRISTMAS (WFXmas). I want to welcome all the Latin America new readers as well as Ireland, UK, France and more. Again I’m proud of our circle of artists. I want to explore how to promote the blog a bit more but I’ve been so busy with tasks at hand. Last night we had a bday gathering which was nice and I look forward to Friday pumpkin carving with my mom and brother’s family and kids. I hear my nephew wants to be an orc like in Dungeons and Dragons or Lord of The Rings and my niece wants to be a scary clown. I’ve been doing yard prep for winter in-between all my film prep work. I’ve been cutting up wood for the wood stove because I had my first fire last Sunday. I was happy that I was able to take down a modest sized tree that was rubbing the house during windstorms. I dropped it without hitting the house, gutters, deck or power line and so I was well pleased.
Working with the other WFXmas producers we almost have everything in line. I’m still crossing a few things off the TO DO list. I’ve been waking up each morning to look into the mirror and see ‘Ben Lily’ staring back. It will be great to play ole Ben again and next to Jesus he’s the only role I’ve played in two different films. Again the season is upon us for the biblical adventures and so do watch FORTY NIGHTS, CHASING THE STAR and THE CHRIST SLAYER. Ben and Jesus both require the epic beard but they are quite different from one another. Wardrobe, craft service, guns, basecamp items have all been handed off to the correct departments. I’ve been working on landing a few new sponsors for WFXmas and even some release sponsors for the upcoming Harsens Island Revenge. I’m really trying to get FORD involved for the Harsens film. It is all Fords in the film and I would love a special event at The Henry Ford Museum. I have a few upcoming meetings with some great potential national/international sponsors this week to join those we’ve done business with. I think these films are a great showcase for many brands and products and have many great promotional possibilities. Let’s do a good old TOP TEN of new developments in no particular order!
- Meeting Monday about laying the foundation of some new studio development projects. We might be able to get funding directly from a source studio for the right projects. We will see how that goes but I’m optimistic. I’m in that active 2025 development phase.
- It is nice to have one feature on deck for Q1 2025 which is the comedy horror ROM COMS MUST DIE. Once we get to the other side of WFXmas we’ll lock down some hard dates. I would love to get some strong teaser art going over the holidays.
- I think I have all the deliverables in place for the KNIGHT CHILLS streaming release. I just need to await laugh dates. We also have a theatrical release run for it in the NYC area which I’ll supply information once I receive it.
- The CDI Literary division is kicking off with Katharsys Media who previous released the MAKING OF IN THE WOODS (Hard & Soft Cover) and the IN THE WOODS novel. All these plus my script for PANDEMONIUM (ITW prequel) are all on Amazon. The KNIGHT CHILLS novel proofs are being sent and will be going up for sale soon. The book after that might be the Script/Making of Knight Chills and/or Ghost Town and An Ordinary Killer. They make great gifts.
- I told you all that I’ve been a contributing writer to several true short stories that include animals. I’ve been involved in the Baker Books collections on cats, dogs, horses and now birds. These books are internationally distributed but usually found at airport bookstores I’m told. The new book releases on Dec 2nd and so I’ll pass along the info once I get it.
- CDI Merchandise is being set up as a fundraising tool for veterans and animals via The Red, White and Blue Project non-profit. It will go active end of November! Every purchase will benefit good causes and we are all thrilled by that.
- Speaking on the benefitting of the veteran non-profit above- AN ORDINARY KILLER will soon be releasing as a fundraising tool also helping Two Average Joes Media that works on cold case files. The HD DVD and Streaming film will be available in time for Christmas.
- We are prepping things for a few event screenings of SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA (SNIA) back into select theaters. We’ll be working with our new partners at Dreamscape Productions. That deal should be in place this coming week. This film is an excellent watch for the holiday season either in theaters (a great way to see it) or at home with family. It is also still playing TV and mid next year will start playing free with ads streaming. This based on a true WW2 story is very touching.
- Harsens Island Revenge music is done and the film will start to be mixed and mastered with our Director Carl Weyant and our post audio supervisor and composer Dennis Therrian. We will be using the SNIA theatrical as a template for the Q1 theatrical. When we return mid Nov from Alpena shooting we’ll sit down for a producers watch of the full film. Once locked we’ll start planning the series of premieres and plan what festivals and events will be treated to this gem. I’m very proud of this film as it showcases where we are as a company. I’m glad we slowed the roll on the final mastering as it will allow a more careful mix. This is the 2nd book by Karl Manke turned into a film. The previous book HOPE FROM HEAVEN became BEST YEARS GONE. Seek that film out and take a watch. This is director Carl Weyant’s first CDI directing job in feature film but he can be seen acting in THE CHRIST SLAYER (Part 3 of The Quest Trilogy) and the above mentioned SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA. Carl makes a cameo appearance in Harsens Island Revenge but go back and watch Carl in action as an actor. He’s a talented young man I’m proud to call a friend.
- I’ve been slow in finishing my rewrite on the remaining 6 shows of WILD FAITH HASTINGS the proposed TV series. I’ll use my momentum from the sequel to come home and finish those up. I’ve been looking to see what I will write on over the winter months. If I don’t have a set writing project I’ll turn my attention to a few of the unfinished ones I have as work in progress. A great SciFi piece, a few comedy pieces and more. It is always about the funds behind a project but you always need a blue print first. But to get good at writing you just need to keep doing it.

WRAP UP: I’m going to wrap this up. We’re going to go visit the last flea market of the season and I’ll look for any final props or gifts. I found a good gift for my amigo Tony Hornus the other day. I love giving gifts to people. They say you are wealthy but what you can give away not what you have. I’m blessed with good family and friends. I’m comfortable with my needs and only have a few wants. I live simple and spend much time in and with nature. The Detroit Lions play today and they have been doing very well but my heart goes out to one of our players who suffered a bad leg injury last week. As an athlete myself I understand the risk and reward of sports. They are not 100% safe. Life is not 100% safe. You want to be smart, cautious and thoughtful but life is too short to be 100% safe. Especially when it comes to following a dream. I’m caught in that often in business because I feel honor bound to play it safe especially with other’s money. But often big profits lie in risk. I often choose modest profits because I cannot afford the big risk. I would rather keep doing what I love versus reaching too far and having it all come to a grinding stop. But I am working hard to get better budgets so I can compensate our incredible artists better and market our films further into the world at large. Step by step. I might even do a few video updates from on set versus writing or I might move the blog day to Saturday which is the off day for production. Maybe both:) Thank you all for stopping through. Fall Welcome! New Releases, New Projects and New Friends
Hazelnut coffee cheers! I want to once again welcome and thank all our readers from around the globe. We have readers from every continent and I’m happy that we’ve got that kind of reach. I started my morning coffee on the upgraded deck. The team still has to put the waterproofing underneath but it has been an enjoying experience. I have to say that they too are artists who work in wood. It has been expanded and once the waterproofing panels are in place it will allow the area below to be used. I think next Spring we might do a lower wood deck with some paving stones worked in. I’m a step closer to the hot tub I would like for my soccer bones after a rough game. I also like the old saunas and who knows maybe one day. Everything starts with a dream. Followed by a plan. Followed by the execution. I like to exercise on the deck and with it being so high up it is like being in a giant tree fort. I’ve been re-purposing the old deck boards and built a side step off the office fort. Today I’m going to finish some repairs to our gate. I spent yesterday refreshing it will new screws and such.
I’m getting closer to a final harvest on our growing plants. I see the cat-mint is getting to the end of the season. Several of the others are starting to shut down save the sage which still looks strong. I’ve decided to make two batches of beverages over the winter. I was given some paw-paw fruit by one of our film crew ladies Mollie and I plan to do a 5 gal wine run. I also have all the ingredients for an Irish beer so I’ll likely do a run on that. People who visit the fort office for a meeting often enjoy a handcrafted beverage. Often we have gifted beverages on hand and we’ve enjoyed being sponsored by Pepsi this last year. I don’t drink pop/soda but they make several beverages I enjoy like LIFEWATER, CELSIUS, BUBLY, GINGERBEER and MUSCLE MILK.

Speaking of Pepsi they are again sponsoring on our next film WILD FAITH CHRISTMAS and were a sponsor on Harsens Island Revenge. The latter being the next release for CDI. We are working hard this week to finish up the movie. Our Director Carl Weyant will be with our composer and sound designer Dennis Therrian this week to bring it home. I looking to have the new theatrical poster which we plan to use for the theatrical run. We are in talks to TRY and bring the film premiere to Alpena, MI where we shot most of the movie. We have to get the theater to work with us which only has like three screening rooms with only one over 100. So we have to explore other venues also at the high schools, college and maybe even a town away. We want to bring it to Alpena and so please do call, call, call and REQUEST that they book the film Harsens Island Revenge. We are just going to be up there about to film the Wild Faith sequel so it would work very nice. But due to Hollywood studios taking many screening slots around Christmas our additional premieres and theatrical runs will likely start in January 2025. We are about to make a deal on the theatrical run which we’re excited about. That said we would love to have the Alpena MI premiere on Nov 1st, 2024 and if the stars align right we will. But do please call the theater in Alpena or any of your local theaters as that will put a buzz into their ears.
WILD FAITH CHRISTMAS agreements have been built and will be dispersed soon. We’re working on putting our insurance in place. Our crew is set and we’re closing in on our final two cast roles with reads coming this week. Transportation is coming up with some good options on wagons and carriages. I’ll be pulling craft service stuff out to be packed up for the trip North. Plans are underway for some special effects surround our 1800’s copper mine. Props and wardrobe is being prepped and I’ve been oiling my leathers. Once it cools down a bit more I’ll start breaking in my boots again. My beard is BIG and so officially Ben Lily is in the house or is that cabin? Storyboarding and shot lists are being constructed and we are still working out a few other logistics. I’m very excited to be gathering with the artistic tribe for a few weeks to tell another great story.
SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA – This amazing based on true events story is entering a new holiday season. I’m going to explore theatrical event screenings with our new rep. We have several theaters want it last year but it was just arriving to home video and so we did not want to interfere with that. It is a great film of unity, love and forgiveness and the type of story we need about now. If you haven’t seen this film it is available to rent/buy on several platforms like AMAZON PRIME. Also DVD’s are available for the collectors out there.
MISC. UPDATES
Twin Engines Global/Deskpop are going to be handling the streaming on KNIGHT CHILLS and we’ll start delivering on that film this week. The new HD trailer is already out there and last week I sneak peeked some art work that will be for the novel. I will be circling around on that to make sure the book will be ready and available. A new marketing campaign on BEST YEARS GONE will be starting soon. Also new artwork for LOST HEART. Both these are great Fall watches. BESTSELLER is out there if you like nail-biting intensity and scares. Dean Teaster’s Ghost Town Special Ghost Town in the Sky special edition DVD’s will soon be going up for sale on the new EBAY merchandise site. It will go up just in time for Christmas. Also available will be the double feature HEAVEN’S NEIGHBORS and FIGURE IN THE FOREST DVD. We’ll have combo deals, free give aways with purchases and all the sales will have a charity component to it.
AN ORDINARY KILLER HD DVD from Two Average Joes Media was delayed due to the untimely passing of one of the partners. They are in hopes of having the DVD for sale by Oct. 1st, 2024 and the streaming is still set for December 15th with Ammo Content. In other news – some of you know I write for a series of animal story books for Baker Books. A new book about bird stories will release on December 2nd. I will fill you in more as we get closer to the release date.
The newly released music video by Shallow Rising has been doing well. The song is called REMORSE CODE. I will try to get some info on the next release and I hope to be filming some more videos in the new year. I enjoyed working with the entire band and crew. The drummers in my family and drummers I know hold this gent below in very high regards. He is a great drummer but also a great person. WRAP UP: I could be missing a few pieces of news but I’m going to wrap this up and go finish a fence fix. After I’m going to attend a soccer match for my niece. My nephew scored his first goal the other day and I was so proud of him. The game has brought much joy to my brother and I and allow us to still play together. I truly do love the game. My college alumni Michigan State University lost a close game yesterday. I hope the Detroit Lions can tighten up their game and get back on track winning. I love the clothes and the cooking as the weather gets chilly. The wood stove fires are not far behind. I need to have a few viking axe swinging sessions to get some more fire wood for the winter. I hope all of you have a wonder start to your Fall season. I appreciate you all. I’ve also been putting a touch of focus on updating all my acting materials. I do have one film project lined up after the Wild Faith sequel but will be looking for a few additional 2025 roles. I also plan to do some writing this winter. ‘Wild Faith Christmas’ and ‘Harsens Island Revenge’ Updates plus RIP to a Dear Friend of Tribe CDI
Hazelnut coffee cheers on a cool Michigan morning. I want to thank all the readers last week from 13 different countries. I want to note that the coffee is coming from a new NINJA coffee maker. I’m still trying to learn all the functions but it makes a good pot of coffee for sure. Our old one was getting glitchy stopping and starting while brewing. I have had a full week of updates some exciting and some sad, as that is how life is. Let’s start with some happy life updates. I preach to all my young “knights” (artists) around the table of the fort to mind their dental. I’m very persistent on staying on all that with brushing, flossing, sonic, water pic and rinses. I eat a very low sugar diet and even my vices save the occasional glass of wine or beer has diminished. From soccer no doubt I dealt with a few teeth issues mostly cracks. Not as bad as hockey but soccer can be equally brutal with less pads. I’m not talking about millionaire star players rolling around in agony at the first touch. I’m talking about a league of older gents proving they still have it. Venting their life issues on the field with very intense play and I would have it no other way. Anyways, I had a cracked tooth they could not save because the crack was below the gum line. I had it removed and prepped for an implant/crown next year. Between that and the deep clean I had my teeth are in good shape. But many functions from joints to eyesight can be connected to infection of the teeth. I’m glad to have all that fixed and dealt with. But I do encourage the young artists to keep that a priority so not to have later in life issues.

I’ve been doing a lot of prep on the property by managing the wild growth of plants and trees. I’ve been harvesting the herbs as they get closer to end of the season. We’ve been integrating two new younger chickens into the flock. We are still enjoying daily eggs and that is a wonderful thing. I put in motion the new deck improvements which I’m not doing. I have a few larger build projects that I want to do including a front porch, car port and better privacy fencing but everything costs. So projects have to be spread out and prioritized. I’m going to repurpose much of the old porch boards to maybe build a few things around the property. The new deck will be set with grading under panels to waterproof the under space. Next Spring will likely be pavers and such so a nice area can be created down below. But I love the high deck to sit and sip coffee while enjoying the property and the park beyond it. Bouncing between the desk work and the outdoor work makes for a good balance.

I’ve been hitting a few estate sales and today a flea market gathering props for our next two films. I’ve found some great stuff that will work well in the two films. I seldom find things for myself but often find great presents and gifts for people. The hunt is a lot of fun and the former owners would likely be thrilled their cherished items are being used to be part of a story. I even found a train conductors hat which you can guess what film that might go with. WILD FAITH CHRISTMAS is moving down the tracks to keep with our train analogy. We announced three new actors onto the film all have been party to CDI Tribe storytelling before. Tim Lovelace (Harsens Island Revenge), Randy Spence (Chasing the Star, Best Years Gone & Harsens Island Revenge) and Steven Sutherland (Ashes of Eden) have been announced. Go watch their previous films with CDI and you’ll see what awesome actors they are. With those roles filled that leaves us with only two major castings. Both are children and we’re closing in on those roles. Crew is locked in and now so is the schedule. The official script and breakdowns for departments will be distributed next week. Director Shane Hagedorn had a wonderful scout trip and also got to look at the mine set. I’ll be posting pics soon of another set piece build for the movie. We have several new sponsors coming on board to join Pepsi, Lerma Transportation, Ace Pyro, Reinert Pottery and more. Harsens Island Revenge – As of early last week half the film score was completed and mixed in. Director Carl Weyant and composer Dennis Therrian plotted out the second half and that is being worked on. The film has intensity and romance and everything in between. Karl Manke‘s book of the same name is going to be epic on the big screen. I won’t go as far as to draw a direct comparison to Elmore Leonard but he’s on the same path. Unique stories and characters in his books and now films too. I still cherish the hour plus I spent drinking and talking with Elmore Leonard in Hamtramck, MI before realizing who I had been talking with. I got a sneak peek at the theatrical poster our director is working on and I was excited. It should be done next week and our friends at Pepsi plan to print them for the Alpena, MI premiere and the other premiere 2024 showings. I’m in talks to have our new partners at Dreamscape Productions participate in the theatrical roll out which is looking like 1st Q of 2025. For those awaiting home video it will likely be Summer 2025 that it comes out. This is how all the distribution windows work.
The Fall/Spooky season is upon us and that is good for films like BIGFOOT, UFO’S & JESUS aka LOST HEART, WILD FAITH, BEST YEARS GONE, BESTSELLER and several of the CDI associated films. (See CDI’s new Instagram page tribecdi that is slowly listing all the CDI films.) And immediately after starts our holiday window where films like SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA, FORTY NIGHTS, CHASING THE STAR and THE CHRIST SLAYER will be on full push.
I will be meeting with Bart Ketner in the next two months that will be overseeing our CDI EBAY merchandise page. I also love this trend of charity like what we’re doing with the new AN ORDINARY KILLER release (HD DVD coming soon and streaming before Christmas) benefitting Two Average Joes Media and The Red, White and Blue Project non profit. The EBAY page will launch end of November in time to get a few Christmas CDI swag with a % going to aligning charities. I might even get into doing signed scripts, movie props and wardrobe to raise money for various good causes. Curran Jacob’s FOR THE LOVE OF CATCH documentary film is another project where a % of the revenue goes to veteran families and youth wrestling organizations. It is about giving back and creating awareness.

These two attributes were strongly held values with a special member of the CDI Tribe Debbie Bennett. She retired from being a specialist in the medical field helping people so her love of helping is no surprise. We at CDI met her as the kind, smiling and helpful significant other of actor Greg Mason. She had accompanied him to several premieres and after the WILD FAITH premiere she quietly asked if she could get more involved. I wasn’t sure what she was asking but inquired to what she had in mind. She had heard about our next film MBF: MAN’S BEST FRIEND that highlighted the plight of adoption dogs and wounded veterans. We had a few potential investors at the premiere to discuss the future film(s). She asked if she could invest. Now filmmakers know how hard financing can be but quality storytelling does somewhat sell itself. She had been quietly listening to all the other financial investor talks and was more savvy than anyone assumed. Never judge a book but the cover. She was an Executive Producer on MBF and the film LOST HEART after that. She came to set and worked as a driver picking up talent and taking them to the set and back again. LOST HEART dealt with grief and loss but in a very humorous way. She loved being part of a film that helped people (and dogs) she was an animal lover too. WAS- yes I was speaking in past tense. I got word from Greg Mason the other day that Debbie was no longer with us. She had issues with her liver and other complications and was now at peaceful rest. The CDI Tribe sends Greg and her family sincere condolences for the loss of a beauty soul. RIP Debbie but the stories you helped make and bearing your name will continue on.
This week we also added actor, writer, director Anthony (Tony) Hornus’ parents to our FB Collective Development Inc. “In Memory” folder. Most of our parents have played a great part in supporting our dreams as artists. That is not always the case but in Tony’s case it was definitely true. Just like our significant others who hold down the fort when we have to go away and film. Take a few moments to look at and read about many of the CDI artists no longer with us. I know I’ve missed some and sometimes I don’t learn about a passing for a while after. But we do try to add the folks who have traveled with the CDI Tribe along the way. Remember to appreciate the people that are supportive on your journey.

WRAP UP: I’m going to wrap this up. This week I’ll be double checking our software that we use for accounting. (Thank you Dean and Josh) Also working with John Mashni on a few legal loose ends. I have to get our production check book in order and start putting agreements together for cast and crew. Everyone is doing little character things from looking at hair, wardrobe, props and such. I’m also going to get back to work on the TV series updates. I have 5 more shows to readjust to fit after the second film. I hope you all have a wonderful week getting your TO DO’s done. My alumni school Michigan State University won their second football match. Our Detroit Lions have their first game tonight which I’ll have to copy because I’m having some family and friends over. Set Construction, More Casting, Premiere Updates and More…
(Looking forward to working with these two dear friends and our entire creative tribe!)
A very good morning to you all! It was a damp but cooler morning here in the Michigan. I’m sipping my favorite hot morning beverage – hazelnut coffee. I was alerted here that many new readers have been joining our circle. I saw S. Africa, Ireland, India and more joining in on the reading. I’ve had a great week on several fronts which we’ll discuss here. The plants in the yard are really doing well. I harvested more herbs this weekend and I share those with many friends. I might package up some as little Christmas gifts. I sip some herbal tea daily usually in the later day to early eve. I also love to read on each one that I’m drinking. You will be surprised at the health benefits of replacing sugary processed drinks with a healthy earth-grounding tea that often strengthens the immune system. Fresh eggs have been coming in on a regular basis and I’m appreciative for that. I enjoy watching them move around the property doing their thing. I was surprised it brought out in me the little kid who loved dinosaurs. I’ve also been prepping for the old deck to go and a new one to go up. We had to change course and look at a few other options but we’re getting closer to moving on that. Always projects but like many folks I have to tackle them just one at a time. I would love a covered front porch with mud room and a carport but all in good time. Speaking of building let’s get into some movie updates!
WILD FAITH CHRISTMAS – The secret is out and folks now know that the follow up sequel to our popular WILD FAITH movie is happening. We are in pre-production and we just about have our crew in place. We’re using a few more crew hailing from the area we are shooting in for cost reasons. Casting is well underway and we announced on IMDB.com some of the returning characters from the first film and the first new character. That character being Dugan Dunkirk played by East Coast actor/producer Sean Ward. He is the owner of the Dunkirk Mining Co that plays heavily into our story. We’ve had a team of construction artists led by Mark Balko building the mine set. Heavy equipment and a lot of dirt moving. We have lots of pictures of this process up on our Facebook site. Actually all the CDI films have a Facebook site and that is a great place for updates, behind the scenes and release information. So seek those out! Harsens Island Revenge – We are targeting a Nov 1st cast and crew premiere in Alpena, MI followed by as many days run as the community will support. Due to smaller theater size we might have to have a day of premiere showings with a near all day afterglow. We have some amazingly cool things planned but nothing is cooler than the film itself. I have my big debrief tomorrow with our director but I have been meeting with our composer and post supervisor Dennis Therrian. Music is full speed ahead and we’re polishing/mixing the sound design as we move forward. I know we have two “telephone” calls that need to be recorded and put into the film. I think we’re done to working on one tricky VFX scene and color correction should be getting close to done. After the Alpena theatrical we want to explore one near Harsens Island itself. One in Karl Manke‘s home town of Owosso, MI with our friends at NCG. And Lansing’s premiere will be either the NCG or Celebration Cinema or both. We will work to get this film into many of the theaters across the midwest who enjoyed our last showing of SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA.
With Christmas season fast approaching our best window for SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA is approaching. We are so proud of this film for many reasons but the fact that it is a true story is surely one of them. We did not go back into the theaters last Christmas because it would have conflicted with the launch of our home video. But know that it is out there to rent/buy at home we might do an event screening just before Christmas with all the theaters who showed our film previously. That will be part of our discussion moving forward. Mid 2025 the film will go to ad-based video on demand where you can watch it for free with ads. That is a popular distribution avenue right now but because of our TV/broadcast deals those ad-based platforms are on hold. This story can be enjoyed during any season but it is extra special to watch around Christmas. Anthony Hornus directed a great follow up movie to his previous MAN’S BEST FRIEND (MBF).
The above mentioned MBF was recently watched by a career actor whom I respect greatly. He has worked with the likes of Denzel Washington and Kurt Russell. He first reached out wanting to know where he could watch the film which is pretty much all streaming platforms. A few days letter he sent a note saying in was one of my very best performances. “Flawless, understated work…No false moves…Congratulations.” It really made my day. I’ve said before that Paul Landings in that film was one of my hardest. It was also hard upon wrap of the film because I got to return to my life and other wounded warriors do not. Matter of fact we still lose 22 vets a day to suicide. I’ve been asked about a sequel to this film and if I ever do it will be for those warriors. I’m thankful for my involvement in Anthony Hornus‘ non-profit to help veterans and their families. Check out The Red, White and Blue Project Inc. online.
To comment further on the above non-profit our 5th feature with CDI was AN ORDINARY KILLER. It is getting a special new release to benefit this non-profit and their mission. I have a podcast on Tuesday with TWO AVERAGE JOES MEDIA to discuss this and make a few announcements. I’m proud that this gifted film is now being used to help military families. For those that don’t know FOR THE LOVE OF CATCH the doc on the history of grappling was also produced with this non-profit. Check out the documentary film and in a week or two the podcast will release with some exciting news on AN ORDINARY KILLER.

ROM COMS MUST DIE is being scheduled and casting is still underway. A few decisions have been made already. Once we finished shooting Wild Faith Christmas and enjoy the holidays we’ll move right into filming Travis Hayward‘s debut feature film! I would love to do a holiday table read so we’ll explore that as we get a bit further down the road.
I’m excited about getting a promo copy of my first starring role in a feature film. A creature feature classic called IN THE WOODS. It has both the HD classic version and a new director’s version. Both have fun commentary if you want to watch it and learn to trials and tribulations of indie film making. And talking of table reads, I’m told a read of IN THE WOODS 2 is right around the corner.
I forgot to mention up top that the WILD FAITH TV series HASTINGS is getting a new boost. I’m in the process of adjusting the season one to go after the second film versus in between them. The series was meant to take up one year after the original but it is easier now to put it in the wake of WILD FAITH CHRISTMAS. But I’m almost done with show number one and it is going great. I forgot how powerful the shows are and audiences will love to keep the story of the Murphy family and friends going.
I’m going to get into some breakfast now after refilling ye ole coffee cup. The Detroit Lions pre-game season starts this week which will be fun. We had a bye week in our soccer so this week is our final regular season game and after the playoffs. It has been a fun season and whipped me into great shape. I’ll have to look into indoor play over the winter. I want to wish happiness and strength to all of you struggling to follow your dreams and urge you to just keep moving forward. I went through a short season of mild frustration trying to make things line up. But once you get to the other side you’ll be happy you persisted. Hard work done smart pays off. Work smart. Work hard. And the fruits will come to you. Funny note: I had a conversation last week with another friend close to my age with a blog. Is CLAWING MY WAY TO THE MIDDLE as my blog name fit? Ten Project Updates – Remembering Friends
(Filming Ghost Town w/ Herbert Cowboy Coward in the middle)
Good morning out there to my friends across the globe who stop in with their morning beverage to read and ponder. This has been a productive week in business but I’ll start by talking about a subject often on our minds as mortal folk. Death. This week I was stunned one eve as I received tragic word that one of my costars and friends Herbert Cowboy Coward had passed away. For those that don’t immediately recognize that name I’ll give you some background. This man worked and entertained at a NC theme park called GHOST TOWN IN THE SKY. A western town high atop of a mountain often shrouded with clouds. At its peak the live gunfighter shows thrilled 10,000 visitors a day from Spring-Fall. Friends like Robert Bradley were amongst the famed gunfighters as was CDI’s Dean Teaster’s dad Doyle Teaster. And Herbert better known just as Cowboy. The movie and TV studios would send stars up there to participate for a few months when the shows were on hiatus to gather fans and the actor and shows. Stars like Tony Dow (Leave it to Beaver), Dan Blocker (Bonanza) and Burt Reynolds (Too many to count) spent time up there. When Burt’s career took off and they were casting DELIVERANCE and needed a second mountain man to “harass” our vacationing men, Burt knew a perfect one. The legendary casting story was that Cowboy who had lost his front teeth due to a non-trained stand in gunfighter at Ghost Town, was called in. Burt said give him a good scare. So the producer who was there to interview Cowboy was thrown against the wall and subjected to mutterings of this man about to…to…to… (Cowboy stuttered) cutting him up. Cowboy got the part on the spot and a smile replaced the grimace and history would be made with Bill McKinney (Outlaw Jose Wales) as his co-star. They were voted by Maxim Magazine the top screen villains of all time. Watch the film DELIVERANCE and you might agree. When we did our Ghost Town in 2006 movie * (I’ll get more to this film soon) we reunited Cowboy and McKinney on screen going head to head. Bill made a living playing bad guys and to this day is one of the most intense actors I’ve ever worked with. Cowboy was tough but got to show his tender side. After Deliverance Cowboy could be found at the local flea market chatting up fans and introducing them to his pet squirrels. He was like a wildlife rehab where they often lived out their days with Cowboy. Bobcats, squirrels…you name it. The other other person I’ve met with those kind of Dr. DoLittle skills was Dan “Grizzly Adams” Haggerty. He was a gentle soul and just a kind simple man. To get that call that he, his wife, pet dog and squirrel all died in a car accident hit me hard. From what I’ve heard he turned in front of a young man, new driver in a big truck. I pray and believe that it was an instant death. I felt worse thinking of his loved ones that also perished and I felt bad for a young teenager who will be forever scarred. Those that know those twisty turning mountain roads can see how it could happen. Add snow and ice and it only gets worse. Gone in a flash. Now both Bill McKinney and Dan Haggerty died from cancer. F$#$%#@ cancer! We’ve often debated amongst friends if quick and instant with no farewell or longer illness with suffering but time to say final goodbyes and get affairs in order is better. Pros and Cons top each but lessons once again about appreciating each day we have and our loved ones. In all three of these cases I believe they were 75+ and so while many live longer they surely lived some full lives. I also learned this week that our ASHES OF EDEN costar Josh Carrizales (Ponch) died in May of 2020. I don’t know the details but I do know that he was too young. So ends my talk on death but I lost a friend and discovered that another one of our fellow actors has left the stage. I’m sorry if I went on a bit about this less than happy topic but it was important that you knew who this simple man was.

FILM UPDATES:
- Ghost Town – We get the film rights back this year from Lionsgate and we’ve got a new campaign in the works. A Blu-Ray is planned as part of the ‘Special Edition’ reboot of the film. Also some special new releases of some of the merchandise that sold up at the now closed theme park and some new items also. One such might be a re-issue of the novel packaged with the screenplay. This film marked the end of the classic CDI period.
- Speaking of the classic CDI period another one of the films might be gifted to a non-profit in honor of the now deceased backer. The film AN ORDINARY KILLER is a fictional retelling of the actual famous cold case film. The film revenue will be used to provide financial support to military personal and wounded warriors. The non-profit has helped the children of Afghanistan and several other veteran causes via past projects. The lead detective played by yours truly is a Vietnam Vet and has his own complications from his times served. I also see a screenplay and book combo for this film. This is the film where I met long time friend and collaboration Terry Knox, best known for his work on St. Elsewhere and Tour of Duty. It seems like a fitting place for this film to land and that is better than it just being dead. It’s highlight was playing on ABC across the country. For lovers of true detective

- SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA which just released 4th Q onto home video is also back into theaters by request. Cherokee, Iowa American 3 is playing it until Jan 31st. We’ve also just gotten another request so I think it will be rolling into more theaters once again as people want to see it on the big screen. We’re told that the film is doing very well on DVD and Streaming but won’t really know until we get 1st Q reports from 2024 as it is a process of reporting and collecting. But please do buy a DVD for your collection and/or stream it will family and friends. This war drama is really being received well.
- We are starting to talk about theatrical roll out for Harsens Island Revenge because you have to start that far out. We are planning the theatrical premiere in Alpena and one likely in Lansing plus a hosted DVD/streaming release party in Lansing. - Let’s just from my most recent film that I acted in to my first feature IN THE WOODS. Fans of the creature features are in for a treat as we prepare a fun PR release. The cult classic of monster hunters Alex Kerwood (Me) and Wayne Higley (Only if not meal time) played by my first feature film co-star Jim Greulich just might have a new distribution deal. It might include a Blu Ray of the digitally remastered classic movie with a new director’s cut. It might even be getting a VHS and streaming release. Furthermore rumor has it that we might possibly see a soundtrack released on classic mediums. But wait could there be even more rumors? Maybe even merchandise including clothing, toys, toothbrushes, frisbees, fishing poles, rifles and…okay maybe some of this is just rumor. You will have to wait and find out the TRUTH. Coming soon! I can confirm that there will be a theatrical premiere of the new director’s cut sometime this year in the Kalamazoo MI area. More theaters after that? You never know:)
- Speaking on my acting which is still my driving force- I think I’ve mentioned last week that I’ve joined a new agency Treasure Coast Agency. I finally feel good that if someone reaches out wanting to hire the actor behind roles like Paul Landings, Ben Lily, Col Lodell or Jesus, that they will be treated with kindness and respect. That has sadly not always been the case and it has made deals fall apart. You can still reach out direct but I’ve got help it sorting affairs and it won’t cost you any more. - HOT ROD LOVE is in active development to shoot this year. We’ve been having meetings with sponsors and funders and are happy to have made even more steps this past week. This 1970’s racing comedy will be a lot of fun to film. Each week we’re taking steps and once we’re there financially we’ll start the engine! Thank you to everyone already working hard to make this happen. We’ll see Shane Hagedorn once again directing and telling this groovy story!
- We’ve got development happening on a few other fronts that could put Carl Weyant and Curran Jacobs back in action in the near future. I’m looking forward to finishing the month strong with more development talks and meetings. Every project is the result of thousands of little steps. We’re going to keep on stepping!
- I’ve been enjoying writing on a few scripts in between the business work. We’re finishing our end of year work with our accounting firm and legal. I want to thank these parties for their hard work. This is not as exciting as new artwork, trailers and such but it is the work that makes it all go. The creative of picking up a camera and making cool lighting is fine and dandy but without the foundation it is just play. So make sure you balance what you like to do with what needs to be done. That balance will make things happen much faster. BALANCE!
WRAP UP: Our chickens have their new feathers and with the growing light we’ve had our first eggs. And thanks to them we just had a great breakfast of bacon and eggs. I’m going to bring this to a close so we can do some grocery shopping and get ready for the Lions NFL football game. If they win tonight it is off to the Super Bowl! NEW ‘CDI’ FILM UPDATES! – November 19th, 2023
This is a truly chilly Michigan morning. Thankfully I was able to get a hot pot of hazelnut coffee flowing. I want to welcome my new readers from India, Philippines, Bangladesh and Canada. I’ve been busy getting things rolling in promotion with SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA and we’re also chugging along on HARSENS ISLAND REVENGE post-production. I’ve had several meetings over the course of the week. MSU, my alumni actually won a close football game yesterday and we’ll see in the Detroit Lions can keep their momentum.
This week I kept up with the winterizing of the yard. We’re going up North on Thanksgiving so we’re having a holiday gathering at my dad’s today. We enjoyed watching the SILVER BELLS holiday tree lighting fest here in Lansing. From our house we could watch the drone show and the fireworks show put on by one of our “Harsens Island Revenge” sponsors, ACE Pyro Inc. It was a great display.
- Met with our BMG Global team on the roll out of PR leading up to the December 1st DVD and streaming release of SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA. I know Amazon Prime and Vudu are a couple of the streaming sites that will carry the film. Many more streaming platforms will be releasing it I just need to track those links down. - I met this week with an old friend discussion charity work with CDI. It is something we’ll move into more of as we continue to develop and grow the company.
- I also had a meeting with Adam Towner this week over our CDI back up RAID that is being assembled. Once that is active we’ll have easier access to our footage for promotional work. One of the the things I want done is a Behind the Scenes video for Harsens Island Revenge to release in December and a CDI highlight reel to drop on Jan 1st, 2024.
- I also took a meeting over a possible CDI associated TV show. It was more consulting at this point but it could turn into something more solid leading into 2024.

WRAP UP: So as you can see from above it was a busy week. While all this is underway we’re taking a hard look at development. It is nice to just have a clear head without any character building currently happening. I do love that process. But right now after months of keeping myself more or less clean shaved, I’m enjoying the wild beard. Plus it is helping with the cold for sure. I’ve been getting after log splitting and tonight I’ll have the wood stove kicking.
The fort’s fireside provides a great place to brainstorm and to move business along. I’m looking forward to many more over the winter as we find the spark for new upcoming projects. We have several properties in development. We’ll seek to capture that momentum from our upcoming releases and exciting post production updates. Hints of Fall – August Updates
I’m sipping the hazelnut coffee and appreciative of my time here with all of you. I want to welcome our new readers from Canada, Ireland and Singapore. It has been a wild week in the world and one of the top events is the awful fires in Maui. I got an opportunity to be there in the very district that was destroyed by fire. The poor people, animals and property lost is heartbreaking. I hope they are able to rebuild but life on that island will not be the same for quite some time. Fire also played a part in our own endeavors as one of our locations to be used in the next film had a fire. Water damage is the main issues thanks to the quick efforts of the local fire departments. I think they will be okay in a month when we film otherwise we will have to make some adjustments.
This past week I put a major grooming on the yard which was growing wild with all the rain. The plants are loving it and growing strong. Tomatoes, herbs, hops and rhubarb are all growing well. I will keep harvesting and nurturing the plants. The hints of fall are all around. Our Detroit Lions football team won their first pre-season game. I had another soccer match that we lost. I saved a goal towards the end but took the kick to my upper thigh. It has been sore but should be good by this next Thursday. We went to a Mint festival in a nearby town and that was enjoyable. We have a flea market in a bit and I’ll be on the look out for more props. That will take us into talks on our films-
Harsens Island Revenge– We had a great meeting with our director this week. We’ve made a few more casting choices and one is a special cameo by multi-national wrestling champion Gabe Dean who will play a bodyguard and enforcer for our lead gangster. We will continue this week with locking down our final cast, crew, locations and props. We had a great change to one of our scenes that will give us more bang for our buck. Some of our prop weapons arrived yesterday and we’ll be excited to bring out the Tommy guns this week. It is truly a fun scavenger hunt for props. We’ve been locking in our agreements and flights will likely start end of the week or the week after. We have some new sponsors that have added this past week. WarReplica out of India and the Michigan Community College Association. We have more meetings and talks this week with more brands wanting to align with us. I look forward to every week working with our team to take us closer to a launch. The cars, boats and even a plane is in the planning. We are about a month out from moving into our on-location prep and shoot.
SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA – We’re about to officially close our theatrical and do a first dispersement to our backers. The final tech prep on the home video version of the film is progressing. It will be exciting that everyone who wants to see the film will be able to. The story which is real has such a moving and uplifting message. It will be the perfect holiday film and we hope will become a classic for families everywhere. I’m also excited to see the new artwork that is being worked on.
SPIRIT LAKE MASSACRE is a truly moving story again taken from history. We will really start working to put the financial pieces in place in mid October once we get past our Harsens Island Revenge shoot. I had a wonderful talk with a historian in the Iowa area about the event and our take on the story. It will be another great piece of history that will be saved. It also has the ability to give the local Spirit Lake museum some great attention.
MISC –
We have several other pieces of news that will unfold here towards the end of the year. The music video we just shot went great and could also lead to another. I’m excited to see the first cut of this one. I believe I have another one of the Revel books I contribute to having a release this holiday season. The audio book series I narrate FOR GENERATIONS TO COME keeps rolling. I’ve been listening to some of those I’ve narrated and I’m very happy with it all. I have a few interviews that I’m lining up for the end of the year promoting some of the projects. CDI’s first feature film (Do you know it?) will be getting a special blu-ray release and that will start promoting next month. In the same vein, I’m excited to see the new director’s cut of IN THE WOODS, which was my 1st starring role in a feature film. We might do a theatrical run with the new cut. The director and I have been discussing the sequel ideas as we have an interested party in funding that and another supernatural thriller. It will be fun to return to my genre roots in a few select projects.
WRAP UP: This week it will be business as usual. Each week we just knock things off the list. We’ve been addressing questions on the next film pertaining to extras, vehicles and props. Each week the list of TO DO’s gets shorter. I had a great end of week meeting discussing a new film back up system we’re about to put into play. We all had a beer that just so happens to be my Mexican-Style chili beer and it seems to be a favorite. I just obtained the material needed to make a milk stout style beer. Something I haven’t tried but should be a good winter beer. The ‘Rocking Rhubarb’ wine will be going to bottle pretty soon. Springtime captured in a bottle.
I’m going to get after a few eggs before hitting another flea market today and see if I can find any good props. I hope you all have a productive week. Be kind to one another and be kind to yourself. I’m looking forward to spending time with more of our team as we prep on ‘Harsens’ and get closer to being on-set. I’m ready for the rain and humidity to pass. Fall is truly my favorite season and we’re not there yet but it is around the corner. I’m going to go fill the coffee cup and get on with my day. Merry Christmas Review
I’m relaxing after a long couple days of Christmas festivities with family and friends. In a few short hours we’ll watch the good ole Detroit Lions (wearing my new shirt) and see if they can change their long history of losing the big games. The best gift of the season has been our youngest furry son (DOG) is doing good with an illness that has been present for a good part of the year. He still has a way to go in his recovery but he’s doing great and I could not be happier. We had a white Christmas despite the warmth today that has stolen most of our snow. I was trying to ease into holiday fun while also staying focused on the last of the 2016 business endeavors. It has been wonderful to recount all our blessings of 2016 and I hope 2017 will create more happy memories. I feel blessed to have gotten to enjoy the year and this holiday season with my loved ones. I hope you all took that opportunity also.
Film Updates –
The Quest Trilogy
As Jesus in ’40 Nights’
The PR will roll out soon, we’ve finalized our new deal on “40 Nights” which will get a new release push around Easter 2017. I’m beyond thrilled to be entering this new phase with this impactful film.
We started working the new deal on the second film, “Chasing the Star” and we should should have that film complete in Jan/Feb of 2017. That will be followed by premieres and theatrical showings before a Sept. of 2017 national release to DVD/Digital.
“The Christ Slayer” – As we prepare the business behind the third film in The Quest Trilogy, I’m happy to say that we just might have found our creative leader. Once our intent to do business is complete we’ll be announcing this amazing individual. With the holiday season at hand I’ve enjoyed getting into the head space for returning to the upcoming role of Jesus.
WILD FAITH
The editing is coming along great with 50+ scenes rough cut together. New poster and trailer development will become a priority in the new year. We’ll start sharing STILL PHOTOS vs just behind the scenes. I’m excited about this film and things are looking promising for an ongoing series.
I did get a nice update on C.U.J.O. from the studio and once I can share more on this film I will. Beyond the March shoot of “The Christ Slayer” I’m keeping myself open to the right roles. I have a few projects I’m interested in developing. I’ve been getting back into a nice writing schedule also which is a great outlet. Enjoy the week ahead and prepare yourself for 2017.

New Distribution, Updates and Observations
In the upcoming “Dead Quiet”
Hello everyone! I want to welcome our new readership from Greece. It has been a busy week here in the good old USA. I’m not going to touch the powder keg that is Michael Brown/police relations but I can say I’ve been a smart ass to the police as a teenager. I’ve been roughly questioned and searched BUT I’ve never hit or tried to take a gun away from a law enforcement officer. All actions have consequences some tragic and some with wonderful outcomes. Other high points this week – the new Star Wars trailer. I was an absolute Star Wars fanatic and I’ve said in many interviews that I got into acting largely because I wanted to be Han Solo when I was seven years old. I’m excited to play my 1st role this December in a Sci-Fi western “Wasteland” playing a shady space pirate type. I flatly refuse to accept the three prequels in my mythology of Star Wars. I think they were mostly poorly casted and some of the plot holes were too far for me to jump. A jedi-knight in my mind would have never left a poor women enslaved to a flying worm. Period. But I’m personally a fan off JJ (the new director) and with the old cast back I feel the excitement from when I was a child.
I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I have great respect for Native American rights and therefore can’t fully attach myself to the traditional meaning of thanksgiving. You don’t accept help from your neighbor and one day decide to take his house. But the Natives have figured out the white man’s greed and casinos are a great revenge. Plus you can see Tom Jones sing:) I do like the idea of family, friends and being thankful – reflecting upon all that is good in our lives. As Americans we do have it better than many who struggle each and every day for basic rights and necessities. We went up North and feasted with family and watched our Michigan Detroit Lions win. Today we are having more family over and yet another feast. We are doing two turkeys and I’ve been smoking one which was started at 4 am this morning. Tomorrow we are getting the Christmas tree so we will be flowing right into the next holiday. I do love having a fresh tree in the house. I also planted a new tree in the yard. My brother gifted me a red wood tree “RED” which we had for several years. That ice storm last year put the kill on poor Red who is now a Harry Potter-like wand hanging in the office fort. My brother bought me a Giant Sequoia. It should survive in Michigan better and so it took the spot where “Red” once was. This week I also tried my hand at venison jerky and from all reports it was a success. I’m going to fire up a beer batch this coming week to share with my amigos.
Movie Biz
This week I address a question to the social media public about social funding. More specific the type that accepts donations in exchange for perks and allows you to keep said funds even if the goal amount is not reached. In doing this the campaign people default in the perks because most are tied to having a finished project. Give A in exchange for B once C is completed. But if C is never completed B cannot be given yet A is kept. By logic it sounds like fraud. Or another way – I’m hosting an event and selling signage sponsorships. I take that money for said promotional signage and never hold the event. I posted asking for failed campaign people (Lots of them around) to give me their thoughts. The post was read by hundreds and not one comment or LIKE. An associate also shared or re-posted this posed question and only one filmmaker liked it. It was a director we’ve worked with and my guess is that he has never engaged in that social funding fraud and so felt comfortable posting. Now this only pertains to these ENTERTAINMENT properties. If you are raising money to offset funeral costs of Uncle Sal’s passing and you raise 1k of the 5k campaign and use it to offset the costs – great! That is a different story. So all I can say is that a lot of guilty filmmakers or weak spine filmmakers afraid to rock the boat because they have friends/associates engaging in this type of campaign. Bottom line is use that energy more wisely and do yourself a favor and learn some business along the way. I’ve said the same thing about enterprising criminals that if they put the same energy into legit business they would be successful. As a joke I am going to create some goofball campaign in the near future to showcase this but I just can’t believe nobody has ever pointed this out. Someone will end up one day with 25 group action in small claims court. I think that is the protection for these people. Who is gonna chase $50 or $100? Instead they brand filmmakers as hucksters and investment opportunities dry up. So next time you have trouble getting something financed maybe blame the never produced social media crowd. Let’s get to some real business.
Movie News
It was announced that “Wicked Spring” our Civil War drama is going to get a reboot this spring with the Winters Film Group. We’re targeting a wider audience and I’m excited to get this film out there on PPV, VOD and a new version of DVD and maybe Blu Ray. The hour-long making of when be included amongst the extras.
“Donors” the horror/thriller will also be releasing this 2015 also signed to the Winters Film Group. This creepy film examines the dark seedy underbelly of kidnapping and organ stealing.
“Dead Quiet” is starting to make some noise as they head towards the finish line for a 2015 release.
“The Terrorist” also is wrapping up post-work for a 2015 release.
“Ashes of Eden” is being prepped for its release and should announce a release date by years end. Also some foreign sales are underway.
“Bestseller” is being worked on with the score, sound and visual FX all coming together. This will have a premiere early in 2015 and I’m very excited from what I’ve seen/heard thus far.
Other re-releases are being looked at including a deal that should have several of our CDI films releasing in India. Many know I co-starred in a film “Karma, Crime, Passion, Reincarnation” that released wide in theaters there in 2009. I’m excited that a bridge to our product is being constructed.
The announcement of the novel being written off the “Knight Chills” script has sparked some interest in the sequel. The prequel to “The 8th Plague” is also in talks with a new director. A few other (for now secret) projects are getting very close to launching. Some major business talks begin again 1st week of December to see if we can lock up a few things before the year ends. I’ve been in talks with my management over a few high-profile projects. I’ve been in talks on a few other new independent projects and so I’m excited to see what projects/stories I end up doing. Well, I need to go refill the water pan in the smoker. I hope you all enjoy your weekend.
