Hazelnut coffee makes me smile. It was a wild week but much good to report. I am trying to think where to start. Yesterday at a family trip I had BLT pizza and it was very good. A local place makes a Reuben pizza we like but this was also VERY good. We had our final regular reason soccer match against a strong team who had beat us previously 5-2. We battled back from being down 4-2 to tie it and took the lead 5 to 4 before they tied it 5-5. And we got the winning 6th goal with just minutes to go. It was a great battle and my favorite game of the season. We finished the season in 4th and now we go into the play offs. With property/yard updates the deck stain and seal is almost done. A second coat on the stairs and a little trim should finish it off. It looks great. The berries are starting to slow and the other veggies and herbs are still kicking. Fall will be right around the corner. I was reminded of that with-
Wild Faith Christmas! We did a listen at the studio of the next CDI film releasing into theaters and it was awesome. Our artists did a great job and the world comes to life with great performances throughout. It reminded me that Christmas is around the corner. How the wheel turns. But the music was just incredible and brought even more to powerful moments. As I fight the battles that all the films bring it was good to see the sum of the hardworking there right in front of us. Now a big screen watch before prepping for the theaters. As it moves out of the studio- ROM COMS MUST DIE (RCMD) moves in!
RCMD was looked over for dialog and audio and now will move into the studio for the musical score! In a few weeks we’ll be sitting down to look over this feature film! It is comedy and pokes fun at our own industry. The actors, the filmmakers and all the struggles it takes willing a film into existence. The HD trailer is almost done and we’ll look at the best time to release that but it will be soon. I have not seen a watch through yet that doesn’t include a lot of laughter.
THE SECRET OF THE KINGDOM CHIP – Casting is close to done and crewing is on-going we added an artist or two. We worked to get our insurance quote and art department work continues. I’ve been pulling in all the business paperwork now that our account is open. Communication can be an occasional issue with people’s busy lives but we have timelines we need to stay on so that can sometimes provide an unwanted challenge. But we also have sponsors starting to really flow in and help support this story. We’ll be announcing some more in the coming weeks and we are appreciative to the ones already onboard. I love the statement I heard this week and we say it often, “if it was easy anybody could do it.” But we know it is not easy and not everybody can do it. We have a month plus before we roll cameras and we will be ready. Several awesome updates but a few I cannot mention until we get the PR approval.
Harsens Island Revenge will play next week both at the Riverside Cinemas and Emagine Macomb Aug 22-28 both in the Detroit area. I don’t know if it will expand into more in the Detroit area but I can assure you it will be worth the drive. The Purple Gang vs WW1 vets! Iowa it is coming your way next. Friends in Algona now is the time to start calling the local theater. We played great there with Silent Night in Algona and I’m sure they will enjoy this film as well.
WRAP UP: I’m ready to hit it hard again this week on all our fronts. I’m going to try and make the Emagine Macomb kick off showing on the 22nd. I’m going to keep on all the business for The Kingdom Chip and be ready to tell that amazing story. I appreciate all the help I’ve been getting from our team. We’ll be pushing the showings of Harsens Island Revenge and getting it also ready for the 10/6/25 home video release. Wild Faith Christmas will look to premiere in Lansing followed by Alpena ands Owosso along with as many theaters nationwide that we can book for the next 5 months or so. This winter will be a Wild Faith Christmas tour!
I’m going to wrap it up so we can hit a breakfast before the local flea market. I will have my brother and a few friends about this eve before I hit the ground running for another week of film work. The chickens have been doing their job and the eggs have been plentiful and yummy. I’ve also been doing a touch of developmental writing here and there. I will lean into that more once I get more off my TO DO list. I hope each and everyone of you had a recharging weekend and have a productive week ahead. ‘Harsens Island Revenge’ Has Roared Onto The Big Screen! (Plus other CDI Developments)

I woke to beautiful sunshine streaming in the window even though the outside is a touch chilly. We have flowers blooming and trees are budding and everything is starting to take on a beautiful green color. This past week I finally did my lawn mow and mulch. I finished my trimming of the apple trees and the mulberry trees might be next. I’ve loved that I can disconnect from the desk at times and go tinker on the property between business calls. I hope everyone had a nice Easter and carry that good feeling into the spring. We lost one of our hens to an illness and I buried her. The next day my lil mouse Jerry who I had been working to live trap and relocate got hung up on a sweet potato bag. When I say hung I mean just that found him dead. Poor lil dude was still warm I cut him free and tried to rub some life into him with gloves on but no dice. So another day and another burial amongst the raspberry bushes.

Okay let’s talk movies! Friday up in Alpena the classic cars were out and the flapper dresses and soot suits made an appearance for the kick-off showing. Of what? Harsens Island Revenge of course. An afternoon showing for cast and crew and the public got to see the first showing Friday night! A packed house and that carried right into yesterday and I’m going to guess today. I know folks who have seen the film three times already. It plays great on on the big screen and I’m excited to see it play Owosso, MI starting on May 17th! That is the home town of the book author Karl Manke and fellow actor/producer Anthony Hornus. There will be an afterglow party there also. Lansing, Grand Rapids and Detroit bookings are underway. The next film coming down the pike (funny term) is WILD FAITH CHRISTMAS. We are seeing a nice surge in viewing of the original film WILD FAITH. The sequel has a first pass on color correction and music has started as well as the opening credit sequence. This film will bring some of the favorite characters back to the big screen in November. The Season 1 that I have written might find its funding/footing we will see. I think fans of the first will really love this follow up and first time viewers will love the film. But they might be inspired to go back and watch the first film. Either way this amazing film is moving down the post process with Dennis Therrian’s music being currently created! ROM COMS MUST DIE the dark comedy about filmmaking and the first feature by Travis Hayward. On Monday we’ll watch the film on the big screen and see if we want any adjustments before we lock it. We are going to also look where we can add additional sound design. I completed my Voice Over work on Saturday so that will be laid into the picture. We’ll also discuss any tweaks to color correction and next week I should see a first trailer cut. This film is wildly unique and I think will be well received especially by artists. - I did a VO for an MSU promo piece which was really cool because it is my alumni school!
- A new music video for SHALLOW RISING should be coming out soon!
- I sent the new Semi-Sci-Fi script THE KINGDOM CHIP to a few individuals for feedback. I’ve gotten some great feedback on the script and some input that had me tweak the dialog a bit on a few scenes and I like the flow much better. This is sitting with one of our directors and I’m awaiting their feedback.
- After ROM COMS MUST DIE (RCMD) will decided to do a few of these lower-budget films giving some new opportunities to artists. I have two scripts being evaluated and I’m working to identify directors and DP’s (Camera). While releasing these two big films it might be a good breather to do the smaller scope films for a beat. We had so much fun with RCMD.

- Collaborations – I have a few follow up phone calls on possible collaborations. In these situations they have their own funds and want it done properly. A few of these include scripts already written and in development. In a few others it could have me writing the script. It all starts with the script.
- This week I talked about the post film work but it will be diving deeper into the development. Even typing here has helped me put everything into perspective. I think I know the direction I want to take. I’m anxious for some feedback this week that will help influence those decisions.

WRAP UP: What a week! I want to thank all the wonderful fan mail I received for the performance in Harsens as ‘Axel’ the WW1 vet who assists our lead Frankie (David Reardon) in his situation with the Purple Gang. We will try to get some more reviews done and announce some new theater dates! In the meantime the film will play in Alpena for at least the week maybe longer. A trip to Alpena would be fun and you could see a film too in that beautiful Sanctuary Cinema. Thank you to our friends there! I’m off to make a few eggs and work in the yard today. New Premiere/Theatrical Showings and CDI Film Updates!
Good morning! I’m up and at it a bit earlier this morning. I have my trusted hazelnut coffee beside me and Scooby Doo playing on the TV. It takes it back to my childhood. What a week. First a big RIP to Val Kilmer who was such a talented actor. Gone too soon after too many challenges. That is why everyone should count their blessings. Health is wealth and remember that while we all deal with the ups and downs in life. This week went by quickly ending in a bday gathering for my niece yesterday. Today we film the last piece of the Rom Coms Must Die movie. We need a change of season look from our previous Fargo heavy snow look. This will be my last scene for Amos Edison and that will officially wrap that character. That film is edited save the opening and insert footage we will film today. The color correction is about 60% there and dialog and some sound design has been done. Once this footage is edited in we’ll lock it and watch through for sound design and music cues. I think I’ll be able to better focus on development once this is finally put to bed.
Harsens Island Revenge released a new hype trailer we call “Dark Days” that shows the darker aspects of the film. It leaves the romance alone and focuses more on the tension and intensity. The film will release April 25th in Alpena, MI with one cast and crew afternoon showing followed by two public showings. It will play likely for two weeks minimum. We have already started working on the other premiere showings and theatrical runs. The Owosso, Michigan showing is about set up and we’ll be announcing it this coming week. It is early in May at the NCG chain and we’re trying to get more theaters involved. We’ll focus on Michigan first and start spreading out from there. This film will place well on the big screen with all the action. We also will start looking at select film festivals to show at as well.
Wild Faith Christmas has locked the picture and color correction is in full swing. Also dialog is about done and music and sound design is underway with the talented Dennis Therrian. This film has so much heart and just like the original should really hit a spot with audiences. We are looking to land it in theaters in November of this year. I was looking at a picture the other day of me with the Ben Lily beard and I was amazed at how big it was. That is what is so much fun doing the character transformations. I might have noted this last week but once I put Amos to bed today I’m characterless.
I’ve read one of two books this week that I was approached about writing considering. By that I mean turning a book into a screenplay. I’ve done that for several books and it is a good service to offer. On some of the books the author/publisher also paid for CDI to produce the film. So I’m looking at three such possible book to screenplay writing gigs. The first book I really liked and it would make a good movie. The second book is more action and we’ll see how that read goes. I’ve got a detective story I’ve already agreed to do I’m waiting to evaluate and work out the fine details on that project. I did finish the script I was working currently and I’m half way through a solid polish on it. This script project could take CDI back to Yuma, AZ in the “window” when Michigan is frozen and Yuma has not yet become a scorcher. I talked with one of our producers there this week to touch base and catch up.
Yuma, AZ is where we filmed our three biblical adventures in THE QUEST TRILOGY. If you are fans of the CDI storytelling treat yourself to these three films. Forty Nights, Chasing the Star and The Christ Slayer and do watch them in that order to grasp the greater story being told. The script I just finished and I’m polishing somewhat fits into that “universe” of films. I had some good talks with Carl Weyant who starred in the third film The Christ Slayer and who just directed Harsens Island Revenge with us. He wants to be one of the first to read the new script. These films are inspirational without being preachy or forced. If you just need an uplift take a watch on the trilogy and again let me know what you think here.
A Christmas Seance and Hot Rod Love will both be looked at an evaluated as possibles too. I’ve been having key conversations about these projects. Like I was saying once we wrap today it will focus more of my attention on development. Writing and organizing have been a good amount of my time. I’ve still got a few end of year business loose ends but almost there. There is always so much work to do with the films but it is worth the end result. In a few weeks we get to treat audiences to our next story. But there are many films to enjoy in the CDI library. For lovers of film in our town of Lansing, MI the local fest is underway. I was going to attend the opening mixer but I was just so tired at the days end from dealing with movie business.

Outside of the films the yard clean up is going well and I’ll be planting more clover. The chickens are doing well kicking about 5 eggs a day. My wood shed dismantle prep is going well and I’m filling the bins. I’m still having fires at the office in the wood stove. Soccer season is around the corner and I’ve been doing some training for that. Always something but keeping that balance of working in nature and desk work is healthy. I’m going to fuel up well for todays filming likely with some of those aforementioned eggs. The sunshine and warmer weather is really helping my motivation and mood. I’m going to wrap it up here. Keep working towards your goals and keep your smile if things don’t always go exactly as planned. Usually it is just patience and persistence that you need to practice a bit more of. Formation, Communication and the Art of Victory!
Hazelnut coffee cheers to each of you. It is again a very snowy morning here in Michigan. I’m excited to sit down and reflect about the journey and the accomplishments. Recently I was reading one of the many versions of THE ART OF WAR and one thing jumped out on this read. FORMATION AND COMMUNICATION. Now I’ve spoken many times on communication and that being a key to success. Formation was a new concept to ponder. As a lifelong martial artist my goals are to bring out the best in each individual and when placed in a proper “formation” victory is achieved. The soccer player and coach in me allows two perspectives of teamwork that I also find helpful. My camp counselor training helps best when we are off filming. Because you have people living outside their comfort zone pushing their focus and artistic abilities to the max.
The enemy of most artist lie in-between the gigs, campaigns, adventures. Any organization thrives by having a strong core and for our group that is the producers. They don’t work per hour, task or under salary. They work to develop properties and do the hardest part of it all, fund it. Once up that big hill is when the next stage of hard work begins which is putting the plan in motion. When you look at all the work that goes into it you might be lucky to make a penny an hour. (Maybe less) Why do we do it? When you see all the happy artists working like ants, all knowing their task, it is a sight to behold. When you see that story that started on a page flicker to life in a dark room it is truly magic. When your name arises to say that you worked with this team and created something that would have never existed. Furthermore will continue to exist after one passes from this lifetime. I have an ever-growing list of filmmaking friends no longer with us and I would like to think that they are happy that they created with their friends as they look us still living.
Financially for a large % of artists you make very modest wages if lucky enough to make wages at all. We take pride in the preserving of history both in story and the artists that told those stories. Kathryn Combs, award winning wardrobe supervisor. Actors like Randy Godwin, Bill McKinney, Rance Howard, Pappy, Russ Stine, Popcorn Sutton and Dan ‘Grizzly Adams’ Haggerty just to name a few who brought characters to life. Sound operators like Eric Holloway and Josh Holloway. I could unfortunately go on and on but at least their names are still spoken with a laugh and a good story. I task myself with the funding of these projects and collectively it is made a bit easier. I work to earn and justify larger budgets to help ease the life of our artists. But the truth is I only take a few weeks of the non-producers life each year. I always say, if the 3-6 weeks I work with someone paying modest wages fumbles up their year someone is doing something wrong elsewhere. I would love to be at the level where 3-6 weeks working with us could be a good part/all of that person’s yearly income but I’m not there.
But I can say that I’m getting closer every day. Because I work towards that goal every day. I often joke when someone addresses the modest wages that unless they rip off their ski mask and hand me a bag a money, I’m doing the best I can. I think what I’m saying is you get zero bonus points for pointing out the obvious. I like to say, I pay problem solvers not identifiers. Why? Because problems have been identified. So the team works hard to obtain the funds for a new story endeavor. At that point we evaluate the crew. (* See that ART OF WAR ‘formation’ talk above) And offers of “date, rate, do you wish to participate?” is presented. First right of refusal usually goes to the previous crew member who did a job to their very best. I will say that in the few times that someone is passed over it is almost NEVER because of their skill set. It is almost always because of their attitude. Negativity is a cancer on a film set and there is nothing wrong with not being cut out for feature filmmaking. Some thrive much better in short, controlled environments like commercials and/or music videos… So if production or the artist aren’t happy they just pass on a project. A new hungry, enthusiastic person will be given an opportunity. NOTE I did not say young. Those attributes can come from anyone with their race, age, sex, religion or politics not disqualifying them. At CDI we have the entire spectrum. You leave those personals at the doorstep and come to collectively tell a story. The only thing we own is the ability to collaborate with one another and if both parties agree to collaborate a mutual artistic bond is forged.
Heat and pressure are applied to the coal and some will burn up and others will become diamonds. Over time you will have a handful of diamonds. Pressure can be external and internal and that is what you control and what you process. We always have artists under pressure and they will either burn out or diamond up. Many great artists have burned up and retired from the hardened journey and they are still celebrated for what they did. I always try to share stories of CDI’s journey as we are built now on multiple generations of artists. Others will march on and fight until they are carried out on their shield. That is their story. I often try to tell people if you can do anything else and your spirit is at peace, do it. But if not you better find your tribe. The journey is hard alone. I know because I started that way but I’ve got an army of artists now. I want to give my sincere and heartfelt appreciation to all the artists at CDI. Enough of the hardships let’s talk about the results.
FILM UPDATES:
- https://mmw.news/2025/02/15/harsens-island-revenge-signs-home-video-deal/ The news is spreading that ‘Harsens Island Revenge‘ has signed their home video deal for DVD and streaming. It will release on Oct 1st, 2025 with theatrical play running from March-Sept 2025. The film is being brought to the Lansing, MI studio to start mastering for delivery to home video and to create our theatrical film. Once in hand we will set up the screening in Alpena, MI if the theater management is open to it. So start your call in campaign now:)
- Sticking to the Harsens Island Revenge film, I’ve seen a new trailer recently mastered by Dennis Therrian. It is one of several new marketing pieces that will start rolling out. We already have other theaters starting to inquire about the film playing so that is a good sign.
- WILD FAITH is one of CDI’s most popular films. We have worked for years trying to launch the TV show HASTINGS. Being such a large step which could have happen but I refused to let go of creative control. So our in-between step was the sequel feature film WILD FAITH CHRISTMAS. I’m so giddy with delight because I’ve been the recipient of so much fan mail from fans who love the original film. They are why I could not sell out the creative control. What will have now is a sequel that matches all the magic of the original. I literally get goosebumps watching the film and I think fans will love this next installment. The distributor was pushing us for Christmas content and so this film made sense. Not the run-of-the-mill romantic comedy silliness this has all the adventure of the original. BEST NEWS is that on Tuesday which happens to be both our director Shane Hagedorn and senior producer Anthony Hornus day of birth we will be dropping the trailer. This morning one little end credit correction but it is ready to roll. We are all so excited for you all to see it!
- Just as Harsens Island Revenge finishes the film’s theatrical run on Sept 30th, Wild Faith Christmas will be releasing Nov 1st into theaters for the holidays and into the new year. The film trailer will release on the CDI Youtube Channel and be shared to social media on the CDI/Wild Faith Christmas Facebook page. In 2026 after the theatrical run the film will be prepared for holiday 2026 home video release!
- Let’s take a hard left turn to ROM COMS MUST DIE. This dark comedy was an awesome challenge to shoot in a few days with some of those days being bitter cold. The others in the studio with our partners at McGraw Multimedia. CDI is going to be producing a series of feature films that are shot both on location and in-studio. The first experimental film was a HUGE success! The shoot went very smooth and I’ve already seen a rough cut. The film is everything we had hoped for and more. I found myself impatiently tuning in daily to see editing progress because I wanted to see what was next. I knew what was next as I wrote the screenplay but to see it come off the pages it a thrill only writers know. Zany, funny, smart and highly entertaining is my first response to watching it. Director Travis Hayward will start refining the cut with the editor John McGraw. But what I’ve already seen has me excited. Poster and trailer talk as well as I’ve seen a BTS underway. The BTS has a few spoilers so we might have to hold on that but it captures the fun we all had.
- Behind the scenes I’ve spent two weeks behind the desk working with legal and accounting getting end of the year and new year business all completed. We had a payout to investors at the end of December and so that was completed. We’re looking at ways to streamline our business even more as we are growing and producing more content. This is the unsexy part of our business but needed to move ahead. Special thanks to COO Dean Teaster, legal John Mashni and the staff at Davison & associates and my bankers.
- As I’m almost caught up on the business I’m looking ahead. We have a few projects gaining momentum and developing. I’m excited to start looking ahead. We have so much going on now and it is only Feb! I don’t want to get too much into development today but know it is always happening.
WRAP UP: The chickens have been increasing their egg laying as the light returns. Now if only the warmth can return. I’m already looking ahead to gardening and the new improvements to the property. A new firewood rack is going to be put together. I also might replace the old firewood structure with a little greenhouse. The new deck is going to be fun to work on and under. A new retaining wall and either pavers or a bottom deck will be added. At some point a sanding and staining will also take place.
I also have some ideas for inside the office to help organize better. I have a corner shelf unit I want to install. I’m just trying to wait until it gets a touch warmer. But I might go ahead and order it soon. I do hope each and everyone of you is having a good start to your year. I know everyone has challenges and the key is coming up with a plan and moving in that direction. I’m thankful that a loved one who gave us a recent health scare had good news. I know a few others awaiting good news and I hope they get it. This world is always changing especially with technology. We are embracing that technology and those changes. We are going to keep doing our thing and we hope our stories bring a little joy and laughter to your lives. I’m going to go make some breakfast and refill ye ole coffee cup. Until next week!

Hello Germany! And CDI Updates Across the Board.
(HELLO Germany!)
Good morning! I don’t know what caused the surge in views in Germany but I sure hope they hear my plea to have SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA play there. Or have a distributor open-minded enough to want to license the film. It is a WW2 (wait don’t run!) film that takes a more even look at the events. It is a based on the true story of German PW’s held here in the USA midwest. Hundreds of thousands kept here during the war. Most farmers and citizens forced to fight who surrendered versus facing sure death. It doesn’t white wash some of the “evils” but also explains how not all were involved and even Germans had much to fear if orders were not followed. I know the feelings of many Germans because we have German investors who wanted to get this story out. Our distributor has had trouble getting a German distributor to bite and trust me I understand. The USA from slavery to Native Indian treatment has its own evils. But I assure everyone the story is beautiful and unifying if nothing else. So how or why we had such a surge of German viewers is unknown. I’ve had several films released there and I have German ancestors myself. But if you read this please do seek out our WW2 drama and let me know your thoughts here. I was the screenwriter and supervising producer as well as playing the camp’s commanding officer. The film is playing TV here in the USA and is available to rent and buy on multiple platforms. It will be going to free ad based watching mid year. I hope this is a film everyone can watch and take something away.
Although it is snowy outside and cold Easter will be coming soon. In 2026 part 1: FORTY NIGHTS will be ten years old. I’m slowly working on a book that would be about the making of the trilogy. Part 2: CHASING THE STAR and Part 3: THE CHRIST SLAYER. I think the name of part 3 turned some away but I assure you it has heart and meaning. I’m also looking to see these three films packaged into a special Blu Ray box set. I have to see if the distributor plans to do anything of the sort or I will look to have it done elsewhere. I want to encourage everyone this season to go to Youtube ENCOURAGE TV and watch all three in order for free. I still love to watch if I’m having a down moment in life. There is beautiful camera work and great points to ponder.
Harsens Island Revenge had a big screen test to see if any visual tweaks needed or wanted to be fixed. It played so well on the big screen and our test group only found a few tweaks which this weekend were being corrected. And this week our director Carl Weyant and post supervisor Dennis Therrian will do the last audio review on the 5.1 mix. From there we are ready to deliver. That means 4k version rendered. I will be reviewing the home video agreement and theatrical at week’s end. We will start looking at all the premieres we want to do will following theatrical runs.
WILD FAITH CHRISTMAS – At the large screen showing of Harsens Island Revenge we were treated to a first look at the rough WFXmas trailer. It was nostalgic and powerful to see the old faces and the new ones. Also the beautiful camera work and results from our hard work in November of last year. The film is looking to lock visual and move to music and sound design at the end of the month.
Speaking of that beautiful camera work in those above two films- Travis Hayward was the artist behind the camera. He has handed the camera work to John McGraw as the Director of Photography and sat firmly in the directors chair for ROM COMS MUST DIE. (RCMD) This dark comedy makes fun of both the romantic comedy and horror genres in the best way. This week we start our in-studio days and if it is anywhere as fun as the first block, excitement awaits. I’m enjoying my return to the genre and in a fun way versus the dark intensity of past films like THE 8th PLAGUE or BESTSELLER. Speaking of horror genre which so graciously gave me my start. IN THE WOODS my first creature feature is now on Blu Ray with streaming planned for later in the year. (Likely Oct) AND CDI’s first film a PG-13 slasher KNIGHT CHILLS just hit the streaming market for the first time ever. Both have books and other fun stuff that is releasing with it. Right now the snow is causing internet issues but the film is streaming on #FREE4ALL on Youtube! More platforms will come on line but I’ve watched this one. It is remastered and for a 90’s film it holds up all right. So if Dungeons and Dragons and Sword and Sorcery is your thing, take a watch. If firefighters battling monsters is your thing but the Blu Ray!
MISC OTHER: I’ve been wrapping up end-of-the-year movie tax stuff and finally have almost have my personal tax stuff ready to send in. There is a lot of things to do with small business and I’ve grown to embrace it. It is what keeps me from working a job I don’t enjoy. So I’m smiling and doing the desk work which is made easier by the freezing temps outside. Not much else to do. But we have Corp Filings and K1’s to investors forthcoming but the 1099’s are all out.
I’m looking forward to returning to script writing. I want to finish the last couple WILD FAITH HASTINGS show adjustments. I need to circle back on a few of the writing opportunities and see if any are ready to move ahead. I also have a few scripts I want to pour out of my head. But this week I’ll focus on the final days of this role. FUN FACT: Kay Burch who is DJ Burch (One of our young Wild Faith Christmas leads) mom is in our current film. When he saw me at first without the Ben Lily beard and with black hair he did not recognize me. It is fun changing from character to character.
2025 is off to a good start creatively and while I’m sure the year will have its challenges it should have its celebrations as well. We have a few projects in funding development and so if you have any interest feel free to reach out. I’m looking forward to whatever comes next. The marketplace is in flux some with Amazon changing the payout formulas and who knows what the tariffs and such may bring. We’ll just keep the ship steady and so far so good.
I’m going to wrap it up and do a little daily line study. I also need to get a few last things around for travel to the studio in the morning. The nice thing is rather than a 45 min travel like last block of shooting I have a 6 min travel. I hope all those in the cold stay warm. I’ll be stoking up a good fire in the woodstove at the office later. But first some fresh eggs and more coffee. I hope everyone has a great week. In closing I feel bad for the lives loss with the aviation accidents. Tragic events. I hope they make the improvements needed to keep things safe. So stay safe everyone!

CDI UPDATES – “Don’t be afraid to try or fail or to be ridiculed.”
Good morning on what will end up being a very chilly next couple days. I’m sipping the ole hazelnut coffee and I have several thoughts running through my head. First after a fun season our Detroit (MI) Lions football team will not be going to the Super Bowl. They had a great season but they played a talented team and their errors tipped the game in their opponent’s favor. How many times do we do that? Our own errors tip something against us? This awareness is called accountability. Many want to blame external factors but you have to look at the internal factors also.
I also awoke to do a brief morning scroll that has unfortunately replaced the “reading the newspaper” time with that first coffee. I saw news concerning a young actor/filmmaker that I don’t know personally but is friends of several of my Detroit area associates. He had a heart attack and died. My first thought was way too young. I also recall the postings over the years where he lamented the struggle of our business. On a positive he went out chasing his dream and even had some success. On another note, his struggle is over now just rest. A slew of RIP’s and messages of love and soon his day to day presence fades as the rest of us keep on. I was actually thinking of several friends who have passed no longer in the game of life. Another reason to enjoy it and don’t be too hard on yourself. We will all live our lives of ups and downs until there is only rest. My thoughts are with the family of this young man.
I’ve been working very hard on all the projects including the new film we are about to start filming in a week. I’ve been getting the business done on these cold days chained to the desk. I’ve been enjoying creating a new character to bring to the screen and I would say he is close to being ready. It is a comedy and I’m excited to do another one. Humor and laughter are one of the great things in life. We are down to some of the main issues being parking at a location so that is a good place to be. The project for those who have not been following along is ROM COMS MUST DIE. It is the first feature directed by Travis Hayward and a reunion working with John McGraw who was a friend from the earliest days of CDI. I have a few solid days of work still required but we are almost all ready. Let’s look at a few other projects that will release in 2025.
Harsens Island Revenge has been worked over with a “fine tooth comb” to make it the best we can. It is being evaluated for theatrical and I plan to get word tomorrow. It is being reviewed by our home video distributor and talks on finalizing that on Tuesday. I did let a sneak peek go out to an awards/event organization that we’ve been nominated by and won awards from in the past. The film has many positive values and lessons to it but wraps it in action and some historical violence. I wanted to submit it to a 3rd party unrelated to the project. I’ve never met the people or even spoken by phone with anyone at the event. They reviewed and I received a wonderful message about the film. A follow up phone call had me listening for the good part of an hour about the film and what makes CDI films stand out so much. I think it is because I don’t follow the trends or what not. We don’t jump on any bandwagons and always choose unique stories to tell. I will say that the story was well received and it has been nominated for BEST PICTURE. I’m sure there will be some other nominations but I’m just happy that the story connected with outside parties. I’m thrilled for the nomination because it represents ALL the artists. I will release more on this when the event announces more. But it was very encouraging to hear the feedback. I think all the films are special but they are our “children” so to speak. But we are creeping closer to setting up the premiere runs. I’m very proud of director.editor Carl Weyant’s first feature film collaboration with CDI.
WILD FAITH CHRISTMAS is done with the first pass on editing and has been in the polishing pass for several days. I plan to see the film this week and soon we’ll lock it up and get it to Dennis Therrian to start dialog, music and sound work. Shane Hagedorn the director is very happy and said it is full of gems. By gems we mean scenes with moments of strong emotion. I know that a trailer and official director’s poster are in the works. We hope to have this film playing in theaters for this 2025 holiday season (Nov 1st) so we are moving along nicely to hit that goal.

- AN ORDINARY KILLER is released on The Roku Channel now! It has been remaster and looks beautiful. Furthermore the watch now benefits veterans and their families being managed by a non-profit.
- We are going to be doing some remastered tests with the final 3 films in the CDI Classic Collection starting with FIGURE IN THE FOREST. This film was the first starring role for Dean Teaster. He has been creating some great characters in our recent films and you can see the talent right from the start.
- I’m going to be working to prep a few more of the books based on CDI films to become available. Music and soundtracks would be nice we will see what we can do this year. Starting to Feel A LOT Like Christmas! CDI Updates! December 15th, 2024

Hazelnut coffee cheers to all of you my friends! December 15th and we have a handful of days to go before Christmas but really it is the entire season not one day. I enjoyed shopping with a buddy of mine which included a stop for hot tea and appetizers at a Thai place. I’m not against a good glass of red wine with a good piece of meat but I just don’t drink alcohol much these days. My last might have been a tequila toast to our friend who passed away a few weeks ago. Man do I not miss hangovers. I cannot handle that and also I’m on such a good sleep schedule. I go to bed at a reasonable time and I’m up early with fresh batteries. Is that old? Responsible? I’m not sure what it is but it works for me. I would not change any of my days of ‘priming’ before going into bars. Edward 40 hands, 3- Man, quarter bounce, beat the clock Jack at the Sleazy D, $1 pitchers at Ricks and I could go on and on. I have lots of great stories to reflect upon and amuse myself well into old age. My shopping buddy was one of my Viking drinking buddies and here we were drinking tea. Drinking heavy is a young man’s game. I’m not sure if it is as popular as it once was but I suspect on many college campus’s the tradition lives on. I still do enjoy making a run of beer and wine each year and it makes for a special occasion. Do be careful if you are still in the game. Have fun and be safe. Running the streets is never 100% safe that is part of the adventure.

Filmmaking also has dangers from mild to severe. The only safe way is to not do anything. What is the saying, boats are safe in the harbor but that is not what boats are meant to do. So preventative becomes the main goal when we go on filmmaking adventures. You want to limit dangers to a small finger cut, a stomach bug or a nagging cold. Anytime you bring a large amount of people together for an extended time you increase your risks. But you have to go on the adventure to get the gold. In our analogy the GOLD is the footage. I’m a bit of a Bilbo Baggins if left to my own devises. I like to ticker and putter around the property enjoying nature and put some order to my surroundings. But thanks to filmmaking I’ve gone on many adventures to distant places. I’ve met and shared with good people from different lands. We’ve captured gold with amazing backdrops for our stories.

I had a very good week of working to wrap up end of the year action items and prepare for the new year. I’ve said before how much easier it would be if it was just SHOW, SHOW, SHOW but it also includes BIZ, BIZ, BIZ. I’m awaiting breakdowns from legal to write out checks to investors. I’m preparing to enter end-of-year taxes which includes more work for projects shot this year. I have to deal with all the aspects of running these projects. I have a great team behind me including our bankers, accountants and of course our producers. We were having some good talks about the future of CDI and growth. We’ve come so far from a few friends playing with a camcorder. I hope all of you are having a great season and enjoying some time with family and friends. Let’s look at some of the updates from the week.
- KNIGHT CHILLS, CDI’s 1st feature film fulfilled something on a bucket list last night. It played in Brooklyn, NY at the Spectacle Theater as a midnight movie! When we use to go see HEAVY METAL (My fav) or ERIK THE VIKING at our midnight theater I dreamed of having a film play to a rowdy late-night audience sipping on 40’s or paperboy wrapped whiskey pulls. Last night that went down. They have one more 10pm showing on Tuesday. You can buy the book and Blu Ray on Amazon and on 1/31/25 the film starts streaming! Ride on Sir. Kallio!
- Staying with theatrical our WW2 Holiday drama SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA has been playing theaters in Iowa. It just finished an extended run in Algona, Iowa and next up is a one night event in Boone, Iowa on December 16th at 7pm. Our theatrical partners at Dreamscape Productions have been doing a great job of getting it out there. Follow our FB page for this and all the CDI films to see new showings and updates. Also INVITE your friends to follow the pages so we can increase our reach.
- HARSENS ISLAND REVENGE is getting close to being finished. The film is being polished up looking for any technical tweaks and to fine-tune the mix and color. I have meetings next week over theatrical and home video. We are planning a series of premieres and a few event showings. We’ve had a few offers to show the film in event rooms with large but not theatrical screens and surely not theatrical audio. After the theatrical run we will do some of these but not until audiences can experience the film in the best format. We have to do everything in an order of business so please have patience as the film is coming and it will be worth the wait. It truly is epic and I’m excited for Karl Manke to see his book come alive. The Purple Gang is large and in charge and a small group of WW1 veterans make a stand. Action, drama and romance await!
- WILD FAITH CHRISTMAS – Shane Hagedorn has been assembling daily the puzzle pieces from our shoot. Here is at 41 minutes solid and working towards that 45 min/half way point. In the new year we plan to have a teaser poster and first teaser trailer. I’m also happy to say that the new film has created a lot of interest in the original film. For some it is a re-watch after several years and others it is finding it for the first time. The film is among the most popular of the CDI films. It is a truly beautiful film and this follow up with also be another of the same quality. I’m also working on polishing up the 5th of 8 shows in the proposed TV series.
- AN ORDINARY KILLER is suppose to go live on The ROKU CHANNEL and XUMO today. I’ll be keeping a look out this week and next week will provide links. If you see it appear anywhere else please do send it over. This based on a true event was the 5th CDI film directed by Anthony Hornus and Jeff Kennedy. It details the hard work of several generations of detectives to solve this cold case.
- I mentioned that the Knight Chills book is now available on Amazon. I’m going to be writing a new intro for the re-release of the Ghost Town book. It is the novelized story to go with the movie DEAN TEASTER’S GHOST TOWN now playing with Ammo Content on several platforms including TUBI.

- On the upcoming ROM COMS MUST DIE a comedy we’ve cast two more actors almost rounding out our cast. We need to look at shoot dates for Jan/Feb and get a few more things lined up but it will be a cool experimental feature using one of these new LED walls for part of the shoot.
- We will be doing a few updates to the CDI website (www.cdiproductions.com) and adding a new page for HARSENS ISLAND REVENGE and adding the new Ebay link on there. I started a CDI instagram page #tribecdi so you can follow along there as well.
- DEVELOPMENT – I have Carl Weyant reading a script for a possible shoot this year after ROM COMS MUST DIE. Also we have a new battle plan coming together for Curran Jacob‘s GOTCH project. We were looking to film in Iowa but the cost there for us is higher with transportation and lodging so we might film a bulk of it here in Michigan and just do some final pick ups in Iowa. We tried to engage the community there associated with Gotch but they’ve had community issues with flooding. We just could not get the support there we needed but we’re adjusting and already have some funding commitments to film here in Michigan.
WRAP UP: I’m very proud of the accomplishments we’ve had in 2024 and 2025 could be even better. I know some in the community have been concerned over the New Multimedia Jobs Act in Michigan to try and fire up the film scene. The first round of incentives did not really benefit us and the one project ran under it was messy to be kind. I’m about outside projects being attracted because it gives cast and crew some experience even if it appears Michigan folks get the crumbs. Vendors and support businesses can really benefit from them. I like more of the internal film grants for longtime residents of the state. We’ll be making films incentives or not. Just like when they had the big election this year. We’ll still keep making films in either environment.
Off topic – I do find all this UFO/UAP/Drone stuff interesting. I’ve enjoyed all the ‘unknown mysteries’ since I could read. NOTE our film BIGFOOT, UFO’S and JESUS streaming now! The fact that they have government committees investigating and the FBI is asking for tips…mighty strange. I enjoy watching it all unfold. What use to be elementary school playground talk is now mainstream news- crazy. We’ll boldly step into 2025 and see what the new year brings. I do know it will bring a few of our movies to all of you.

Back on topic– I think I mentioned on my FB social media that I had my first ever paid offer to star in a stage play in another state. I humbly passed as it is happening in a busy month and during one set aside for ROM COMS MUST DIE. I’m in the process of becoming Amos Edison, filmmaker. But I thought that was a cool first and again I appreciate the offer but filmed narrative is my medium. I did finish voice over narration for my last book in an audio book series. That has been fun to do so thank you Ronnie Lee. I’m going to finish up here and get some breakfast on with some fresh eggs. We went from bitter cold to a melt down today. We’ll see if the cold kicks up again or not. I’m going to play elf and do some wrapping of presents. I’ve been enjoying the season and you have to take those moments to be grateful for the people in your life. I’m grateful for all of you readers too. Many that I’ve never met but I still appreciate your time. I hope you can take some gems of info from these writings. I’m excited to talk this week about a new CDI Highlights Reel also. Powerful Posters, ‘Harsens’ Post-Production and Premiere Info and ‘Wild Faith Christmas’ Pre-Production Updates
A light rain and cool breeze is welcome versus the horrible storms they’ve got down south from the hurricane. I checked in with many of my friends and some like my cousin outside Tampa, FL had nothing but wind. Others like Robert Bradley in Maggie Valley, NC are good but their town and region is not. Highways washed out and roads impassable. The main drag of Maggie Valley is flooded out. Just sad that so many are facing the hardships they are. Knock on wood- but we’ve been lucky being on a high hill and our property is sandy and absorbs water quickly. My thoughts and prayers with all those suffering in the aftermath.
I want to welcome out new readers from France, Netherlands and more. I really love the global artists circle we have. I had several folks comment and we’ve had lots of new subscriptions which is great. I’m going to provide some great updates and I hope give some insights that you can apply to your own endeavors. I’m going to do a warm up on my hazelnut coffee and we’ll get into this. Speaking of coffee we’ve been enjoying the new enhanced deck for sipping coffee and watching the morning nature. The dogs enjoy having a better view of the surrounding area and the gate allows me to have them enclosed. That helps at night if I smell skunk in the area which anyone who had had to bathe a dog who has been sprayed knows. I built a small step deck off the office/fort porch and a new compost bin from some of the old deck wood. I still have a good amount left for some of my projects. I’m still harvesting the end of season herbs and using them in cooking and for tea. So many great compounds that are in plants.
NOW TO THE PROJECTS!
With every CDI film we really try to let the director’s pick, choose and oversee one poster, the theatrical one. Because marketing staff at the home video level will put together the artwork that will best serve their purpose. This is the beautiful picture that our director Carl Weyant put together for our theatrical run. Below is some moody shadows and reminds me of the old detective posters of the 20’s and 30’s. Above you see The Purples, a glimpse of the Harsens militia and the innocents put at risk with this conflict. I’ve had a lot of people talking about wanting to buy a poster and all in good time.
We will be getting an RSVP for main cast and crew to see who can attend a private showing in Alpena. Following the screening they will have another show for sale for the public and it will play for several weeks in Alpena. That is what the deal is looking like. The theater controls how many screens and times so we are limited. But as I’ve said before, the more the demand the more screens and times they might open. Currently the invite is for just cast and crew and not plus one. Folks will be responsible for their own travel and lodging. I’ll keep you all informed here and of course we’ll be posting on the Harsens Island Revenge Facebook page. Now in January 2025 we’ll start our theatrical run. Several runs might be kicked off with a special event party like in Owosso, Lansing, Grand Rapid and Detroit so that might be closer for many of you!
We’ve been working hard on end credits trying not to miss any or misspell any names. That said, it happens every film because of the sheer amount of names and sometimes handwriting by people. Lastly, it is passing through human hands and we all make mistakes but we try to keep that as low as possible. The music, color correction and VFX are being finished and polished up. Next week they start to pull that all together. Dennis Therrian has been working a powerful musical score and every artists has been putting his all into the film. Final posting and mixing always requires an increase in focus and communication. Something I myself also work on and try to encourage. If you send something let the party know it has been sent. If you are the receiving party let the sender know it has been received. There is a reason the military is so effective with their communication. The thing to remember is that you all have the same goal and you’re trying to make a process as smooth as possible. Bottom line is the film is getting close to being done.
AN ORDINARY KILLER streaming will be on December 15th and I’m hearing that it will be going to XUMO and The ROKU CHANNEL. Likely it will go to AMAZON and possibly PLEX and PLUTO TV.
DEAN TEASTERS GHOST TOWN is streaming on TUBI and various platforms. We do plan to start selling the special edition theme park DVD’s prior to Christmas. For those that know Robert Bradley this was filmed in his home town and he co-stars.
KNIGHT CHILLS is starting to deliver assets for the streaming release. I also wrote my foreword for the new release of the novel. I’ve been collecting some materials to put together a nice script and making of book also. I’m excited that this film is out there on HD Blu Ray and will soon be streaming! I would like to see this franchise take another step and we’ve got a script. So we’ll see what happens!
Looking Ahead!
This year saw three of the films from CDI’s library (Dean Teaster’s Ghost Town, An Ordinary Killer, Knight Chills) get set up for a new release. We’ll tackle a few in 2025 also. We have to get the technical correct in order to HD remaster the films.
WILD FAITH CHRISTMAS is in the final weeks of pre-production. We had a great meeting on Friday looking at the remaining TO DO’s. I’m happy to say that the main cast is all DONE! We found our last two leads and we could not be more happy! The sets are on point and we’re working on the last of the logistics. I met with our associate producer and legal over sushi and he’s putting the final pieces in motion. As I was reviewing the new official script and highlighting my Ben Lily lines I was so taken by the story again. I’ve been up to my neck in the business of it but it was pure joy to do lines and re-read the entire story. We have some new sponsors coming onboard with DEANS TREE FARM, SPORTS UNLIMITED and ANCHOR CONSTRUCTION CORPORATION! Thank you to all the fine companies and individuals helping to make this film be everything it can be.
ROM COMS MUST DIE is still on deck for the first of the year. We’ve been quiet as of late but that is because we have a lot out there. That said, we do keep moving pieces on the board. We’ve added Ian Griffin as the AD and will be playing a role in the film. He is an amazing actor that I met in 2002 on AN ORDINARY KILLER. He’s been in many of the films such as BEST YEARS GONE (The police officer) and he’s Boozy Jack the bootlegger in Harsens Island Revenge trailer that says he would sell to the devil himself.
Tis a good season to watch some scary films like IN THE WOODS, now on Blu Ray!

Film Updates, Scouting, Casting and Sad Politics
I’ve just had an afternoon sip of my coffee from this morning, but it is now mid-afternoon on Saturday. I wanted to get a head start on my Sunday blog because I have an early Sunday scout trip planned and a flea market attend in the afternoon. It has been an interesting week in the development of our film properties. I also have some good updates with current film projects, and I even have a few insights to share. Where to begin? The scout trip is a good place to start. We are going to scout my friend’s property that we want to use for several scenes on ROM COMS MUST DIE. It is a comedy and I’m excited about that. We had a great meeting on Monday with Travis Hayward who will direct and John McGraw who will be the director of photography. We also got some good audition reads sent in from our local area casting. We are not doing transportation or lodging on this smaller film project, so we are trying to cast in mid-Michigan. It is an experimental film shooting in studio and outside on locations. It will use some amazing technology and A+ equipment. I want to thank those who have given reads and I’m happy to say we might have found a few more of our actors. We will have discussions about that on our scout tomorrow.
In the afternoon I love going to flea markets and estate sales to look for certain props. On this occasion I’m really looking for things that work with our WILD FAITH sequel WILD FAITH CHRISTMAS. We announced last week that Shane Hagedorn will be our director and editor. Also, it sounds like we’ll be announcing other keys and crew members in the coming weeks. We’ve been trying to tie up the last few units of funding but might be close to doing that. Once that is done, we’ll move more aggressively forward on our hiring. But we have been giving proposed dates to some folks. It is a slightly smaller crew versus our last film because the shooting locations are much tighter. I’m really hoping we move solidly into pre-production by the end of this coming week. I’m happy to announce in advance that our friends at PEPSI are again sponsoring us and we’ll be bringing others on with us as well. I’ve been slowly moving my look towards the return of mountain man Ben Lily.
The longer hair and beard are not the best for this heat we’ve had but so be it. My look for my role in ROM COMS MUST DIE will be more groomed but still on the way to mountain man. I had another offer for a bad guy in a tv series pilot. They wanted a rich yuppie type, and I wasn’t sure I could make that happen. The sides turned out to be something I wasn’t willing to do so that made me feel better not to reject the role on look alone. Put it this way, I’m in really good shape for my age but I still don’t want to do any nudity. And the scene matter itself was a touch degrading and so that was a polite pass. Some upcoming actors will be more ambitious and willing and so they can put themselves through it. I’ll focus on my next two roles, and I did ask to read for a role in a friend’s film. I liked the character breakdown, and we’ll see how that works out.
The end of the second quarter is upon us and so I’ll be happy to see how some of the films are doing. I’m excited about how several are trending and that is good for all involved. How fast a film connects with an audience is always a gamble. You can project and predict but you just never know. I’m just happy they are all producing. We just signed an advanced deal for AN ORDINARY KILLER to go streaming in December but I’m excited about the HD DVD due anytime now. I’m about to start a new trailer working with Adam Towner.
KNIGHT CHILLS HD screener has been sent to the first choice distributor to try and set up streaming for this Fall. I LOVE the new trailer and you can look back at last week’s blog to watch several of the trailers. Dean Teaster’s GHOST TOWN is also back in the streaming on HD and I’ll explore getting the Special Edition park DVD’s for sale before Christmas.
I’m going to put more focus on the final three films in the classic collection FIGURE IN THE FOREST, HEAVEN’S NEIGHBORS and FROM VENUS. We have a great double feature DVD of FITF and HN together. We’re exploring several processes with the restoration of these films. But this year has already been good on getting classic CDI films back out into the market.
On that same note, people have started to get their IN THE WOODS Blu Ray with the classic and new versions of the film in HD. I was talking with director Lynn Drzick who had the Blu Ray in his hot little hands and the packaging was great! I’m awaiting my copy of the film and it will be fun to rewatch. I really think the new edit is very good and improves the movie’s flow. So, if you want the new Blu Ray google that up and buy it now. Let me know what you think! I’m also told the sequel script is getting close.
I also want to turn my attention back to some literary releases especially on the films back to market like GHOST TOWN, AN ORDINARY KILLER and KNIGHT CHILLS. I need to get some artwork around for the novels. Same for the ‘making of’ books with scripts plus other extras. I’ve been full ahead on these other streaming titles and development work on the new films. But I’ll soon be shifting gears again. I realize every week when I do these updates how much work I really do. But I do enjoy it. It can be frustrating at times but also so rewarding.
HARSENS ISLAND REVENGE trailer is being very well received. The film last week started music scoring in full and I know a new director’s poster is being worked on. Speaking of director Carl Weyant, I started by having he and Travis Hayward tackling music videos. One of them is completed with SHALLOW RISING, a song called REMORSE CODE and will release on 7/26 I’m told. I will share once it releases. We have another video in post with the same band that will release later in the year.
What am I missing? Maybe that is enough updates for the week. I was excited that at an estate sale also seeking props I found four CD’s by my good friend musician John Two-Hawks. Look up his work you will not be disappointed. He was also an actor in FROM VENUS. After the tropical rains we got the plants have been growing like crazy. I’ve been harvesting herbs left and right all week. As I sat outside on the deck this morning drinking my coffee, I noted all the wildlife from the inchworms eating hops leaves to the birds and squirrels gathering berries. I love all the nature we have on our property. It brings me a great peace and I’m thankful for it. I hope all of you are finding your peace as you chase your dreams.

Added two cents- It is Sunday and I’ll be leaving for my scout in a few. I’m sad about the events that took place last night. Two citizens apart from Mr. Trump of the USA were shot attending an event as part of their American rights. One died and I don’t know the situation with the other. But this kind of political violence is just wrong and will only make the divides deeper. I’m so glad that I’m a storyteller vs a politician. I think we all need to be better led by our hearts. I just believe in deciding by vote and not violence and this kind of action is not our way.

The coffee is flowing nicely. I had to get it early again because our furry babies do not like the fireworks. Once those big booms start they will not go outside to do a final potty. And when usually they go out just before bed it results it early morning potty breaks. At least this one was only an hour before I normally rise. I want to wish my mother a happy birthday. We all went out to dinner last night and to her house after. It was fun to be with several family celebrating her day. I had coconut shrimp which was nice. I haven’t had that in quite a while. My father’s birthday is tomorrow and we are having a party for him today. My sense of days is all messed up and I’ll be happy to be back on a schedule tomorrow. But I’ll enjoy another day of family and friends before I’m back at the movie tasks. I again want to thank all our readers from around the globe. We had a lot of new readers and from new places which is always nice to see. I like something I read recently that said every 100 years we have a new batch of us humans living upon ole planet earth. They stated this is our crew, almost like your high school class just on a global level. Be good to your crew. In a 100 years a new group will be running the show. This is our time to make the best of things. As I enter my 3rd decade of storytelling I already feel this turning of the wheel. So happy birthday to my mom and dad and I even recently added a new year onto my age. But age is just a number.

When I return to filmmaking work this week it will be back to the funding stage. I’m not as good at raising capital as I am managing a film crew. I do okay because we have a strong track record. We get things done on schedule, on budget and with good quality. We have all the films in the marketing earning and that allows us to keep moving forward. This year we’re doing two smaller endeavors as we prepare for a few larger endeavors next year. This is allowing some who normally cannot invest to invest. It is a unique thing to be part of storytelling, something that will outlast ourselves. I’ve been putting together ROM COMS MUST DIE, a funny slasher that is clever in the examination of stereotypes and the trails and tribulations of artists. The other is a Christmas sequel to our successful WILD FAITH. We have given the prior backers the first opportunity to be part of the second film, which some did. Now we’ll be opening it up to new investors. The original film has many fans in the tens of millions and so we’re going to bring them a new story with some of their favorite characters. While the sequel is smart because of the ready made audience it is not a money grab. The script and story live up to the first and will be a great second chapter in this saga. We have been doing casting on both of these and I’m happy to say having some success. CDI consists of actor/producers and so we take that part of the process very serious. With the first project we’ll be announcing the director Travis Hayward and director of photography John McGraw this week. I’ll be sitting down with them this week and we’ll be discussing schedule. We got some great news on the WILD FAITH sequel on a location and we’ll be returning to Alpena, MI in November if everything stays on course.
This leads in nice to my updates on Harsens Island Revenge. First the official trailer has released and the response has been wonderful. I’m happy to say that the sound design first pass was almost complete as of Friday. This week will be a review session with our director and more music plotting. The post process is moving along nicely due to the software improvements. That is where AI can assist in guessing where an artists is going. Now we will not ever use AI music as I believe the human touch is best here. I use to say stock footage is like a suit you take off the rack. It can fit good but seldom if ever great. An AI is just stock footage created for your footage. So again AI can increase the speed at which an artist can perform his or her task. But AI will change our industry just like the digital revolution did as we transitioned from film. Actor/Producer Shane Hagedorn has been in Alpena over the holiday exploring options for the premiere. We will access the film at the end of the month and try to rough in some dates for a premiere. VFX and color correction work is underway and even a new poster of the director’s choosing. This will be a great story added to the CDI collection. You can watch the trailer below.

CDI’s first feature film KNIGHT CHILLS is celebrating 25 years plus and recently released on Blu Ray. It was fun to read all the positive comments about the film on the distributors site where the special edition sold out in 6 days. You can still get the classic Blu Ray but it showed me how a cult following has truly grown. So it will be coming to streaming late this year and we’ve cut a new promo trailer. We are still experimenting on the restoration of FROM VENUS, HEAVEN’S NEIGHBORS and FIGURE IN THE FOREST. A film look filter but on the early films soften the pixels and and when we up-rez them now it blurs them our so we need to sharpen or de-noise the films before we up-rez which is taking us a bit to get that correct. But as you can see the entire CDI catalog is being addressed. I love the job that Steve Young did making our PATCHWORK GIRL OF OZ film HD. We’ve been approached about producing another feature film next year which is being evaluated. Again if you have your funding this is something we’ll consider. I look forward to reading a rough draft of the script and see where the project is at. It sounds unique from other CDI properties and I love that. I also got approached about acting in a TV pilot being filmed and I’m excited to read that. Plus add in the two CDI projects coming together for 2024 and I will be artistically fulfilled. I did see another project casting in Michigan that had a role that jumped at me. I sent off an email requesting sides and we’ll see what becomes of that. Youth, Experience, Wisdom and Loss

Hazelnut coffee cheers from your artist friend DJ Perry enjoying a cool non-humid morning. My furry boy woke me early to go do his races with his buddy Jake. A lady walks her dog daily and they meet at the fence and do a series of “bop and go” runs. That is one barks GO! And they both bop the fence with their snout and run down and back along the fence line. I was proud of him because he hates fireworks, even the word. But even after a morning barrage set by some young yahoos likely not even to bed yet, he still returned to run. Usually it was one BOOM and he’s done. Let’s follow this conversation with yahoos.
I was once a yahoo which is a young foolish, self-centered, invincible-acting youth. We use to have a massive 4th party at my buddies house whereas so many fireworks were set off. This was not a country house but in a neighborhood and I can’t imagine the amount of distress we caused homeowners pets. And now I live in the karma. Also since last Monday my week has had a sad background to it all. Dear friends of mine that I actually introduced and who celebrated 30 years together recently lost their son. I knew this young man since he was a baby on up. He was like a nephew before I had a nephew. He had a ultra loving home and he was a well mannered, kind and humorous soul. But much like myself and many other’s he occasionally sought a BUZZ to be more social. Not all buzz’s lead down a dark place and for many it is just a phase. For some it can lead to a tragic ending and that is what happened here. This new generation seems to have much more dangerous substances too readily available. I’m not saying alcohol isn’t destructive because it surely can be. It can cost friendships, marriages, health and life either in bad decisions or eating your vitality. I will mourn this loss for a lifetime because it came way too soon.
I use to drink too much in my younger days but it was by choice, boredom and to deal with some of the early setbacks and failures of trying to get ahead in the film industry. I see the battles many young actors and filmmakers are going through. I feel for them because their passion is like a disease. It can be devastating to believe you are meant to do something without the means to do it. But keeping a clear head and trying different avenues is slowly revealing a path to success. After several wrong turns through the maze you start to gain ground. Experience teaches you and prepares your emotions for rejection. I told someone recently, you know me for my 30-40% of success but not of my 60-70% of setbacks. I’ve been dealing with those setbacks even now. I get something in place and it unravels. I put a piece in place and another falls off. But that is the way.
My belated birthday trip to Greenfield Village on Friday gave me many of the same inspirational insights to success only after many failures. Henry Ford didn’t fall into success. Nor did Thomas Edison, Walt Disney or Milton Hershey. Poverty. Fires. Bankruptcy. Ridicule. The greats all faced it unless handed down the money and those individuals were usually a pale version of the visionary who suffered to create. I’m thankful to be alive with the opportunity to try to climb the mountains.
I’m ready to get back to work tomorrow and try to get the new projects on better ground. We have some amazing wins this year already but I’m trying to prepare to do that again next year. We are fighting to film more stories this year and do it proper. Let’s look at some film updates-
- The first Harsens Island Revenge trailer is almost done. I’m awaiting the final version so I can upload to CDI Films Youtube site and we can premiere it. It is really good and only a reflection of the powerful film but it will be a great teaser to get folks ready. I wanted to release it on my birthday (June 23rd) but we were waiting on new voice over. And I wanted to try and have it released by week’s end or even today/now but the full audio was being remixed with the new narration. We have artists who deeply care about the story and final product and it shows. I would not be surprised to see if come across my desk today sometime and if it does we’ll all have a glorious Monday kick off! Additional trailers and poster art will follow!
- This week I’ll also be sending the new HD trailer of KNIGHT CHILLS, CDI’s 1st feature film, to a few distributors. Adam Towner did a bang up edit job and it is such a joy to see the work from all those years ago being presented again. And with the popularity again of Dungeons and Dragons and fantasy role playing games I believe it will be a hit. The Blu Ray sales on the special edition were wonderful. Now we want to bring it right into people’s homes. Follow the film on Facebook for all the new updates including the new trailer!
- AN ORDINARY KILLER sales link for the special edition HD DVD is still being put together. The streaming deal on this dramatic and touching film will be signed this week. It will stream in December! Now that Adam Towner has finished the new Knight Chills trailer the AOK streaming trailer might be next on deck.
- Dean Teaster’s GHOST TOWN is now streaming and kudos to Brett Frame for his trailer for the new release. Go to TUBI to watch free with ads and it should start appearing some other platforms also.
- Work on “De-Noise” and Up-Rez on the other classic CDI films is underway. I want to get a sales site up for the double feature DVD’s of HEAVEN’S NEIGHBORS and FIGURE IN THE FOREST. FROM VENUS artwork is being worked on and I’ll be having more talks on that film also.
- FOR THE LOVE OF CATCH the documentary on Catch-Can wrestling and the world champion Frank Gotch is being developed as a feature film biopic. We are making some ground there with UFC champion Randy Couture attached to play the famous trainer Farmer Burns, ironically related to our production designer GW Burns. We are working hard to try and align the financing on this story.
- Also in development is ROM COMS MUST DIE, a parody on the state of art in this day and age. Also the much awaited and anticipated sequel to WILD FAITH is aligning its financial pieces. It is a Christmas adventure with many of your favorite characters. If all goes as planned we’ll film in November of this year.
WRAP UP: I’m sure there are a few more updates I’m missing. But with the weather so nice and cool I have a list of things I want to get down on the property. I’ve been harvesting berries, mint, sage, red clover and more. I was given as a gift a beautiful metal owl that blows in the wind. I think I’ll attach a picture of it on here. The chickens have been gifting us eggs and they’re still a joy to watch strut around looking for food.

I think I have an interviewer for a book coming to the fort/office tomorrow to discuss a past project. So I’ll go do a bit of straightening up there also. As noted above, this has been a hard week for many people who knew the young man who passed away. Our time here is limited and so make the most of it. Chase dreams and help others. You unfortunately can’t help everyone but that is why I love our stories. They reach tens of millions of people and spread that positive good energy. Another Trip Around the Sun and CDI Updates!
Hazelnut coffee cheers! I recently just went down and celebrated by dear friend Robert Bradley‘s 80th birthday and now I’m the one adding a year. I want to thank all the new readers from Australia, Mexico and more. Again I’m so proud of how our little weekly artist chat circles the globe. We are all connected by storytelling. We all want to make the world better by not forgetting the stories of days gone bye, the good, the bad and the ugly. I was thinking this morning of my humble beginnings and my many family and friends that have made this journey so enjoyable. It also creates pain when they are no longer with us but that is the turning of the wheel. I’ve been enjoying instagram because of the video reels I’ve been putting to music. As a bday surprise I wanted to release the Harsens Island Revenge first official trailer but the narration by our young lead David Reardon is not yet done. That means the trailer will not release until this coming week but it will be worth it. It is really a wonderful piece and the film is something everyone involved will be proud of. Carl Weyant directed a powerful piece and the composed music by Dennis Therrian just stirs the emotions. The dialog has been polished and the work is now centered on VFX, Sound design and musical score. The work is moving along strong and at the end of July we’ll evaluate our progress and see if we can set a premiere date. We want to premiere in Oct/Nov but that all depends on our post production work. But we’ve got this trailer and another trailer being worked on plus a theatrical poster and even a music video. The 1920’s are going to roar alive in this Karl Manke story adapted from the book to the screen. I really love Karl’s stories and if this does what I think it will we’ll be adapting more of his books.
Yesterday I had some great conversations with professor Nicholas Mercuro who was associated with the WW2 museum established in New Orleans. I’m looking forward to his feedback on SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA. I plan on getting a film review from him and we might establish some great associations with the WW2 museum. He’s worked with some major players in that world including the film world. SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, BAND OF BROTHERS. Our smaller film hits strong with our home front story. I look forward to directing some new international attention to the film. Have you seen the film? It is on Amazon Prime and several other platforms now. It won’t play on free ad based platforms until next year as it is just starting its broadcast run in July. The lead character in the film made a return to Algona several years later and I’m exploring to see if a sequel to SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA would make sense. RETURN TO ALGONA? We’ve got a great base of films that have attracted tens of millions of fans and many want to see what happened to some of their favorite characters. So we’re serious exploring that while still bringing you originals.
Speaking of sequels and originals – we’ve got two films in active development with the first one about to enter pre-production. Yesterday we brought on our second Executive Producer which is an investor who makes a large contribution to a project. Thanks to that we’re moving ahead with the smaller of the two projects. A PR release will be coming soon on that project and the second film, the sequel is to WILD FAITH. I’ve had a season 1 with eight 44 min WILD FAITH: HASTINGS TV shows written since Covid and had a few near launches but too many strings were attached. So inside the world we created we’ve got a beautiful Christmas story that has many of your favorite characters in a side adventure. I’m so happy with the script because it has all the heart of the original. And the thought is that this film could be the match to light the TV series. We’ve got about 1/2 the budget committed and were in talks with several more good folks. If all goes as planned we’ll film in November. What I will say is that starting to grow my beard in this heat has been challenging. I’ve been pretty clean shaven the last couple of movies. Time to get rugged again.

I also had the pleasure of looking at Adam Towner‘s new KNIGHT CHILLS trailer for the fall streaming release in HD. It is really cool to see the first CDI film getting a fresh breath of life. I actually just got off a call with Dean Teaster who has been trying to de-noise and up Rez Heavens Neighbors, Figure in the Forest and From Venus. We are taking our time and really trying to get it right. The new technology is amazing but also a bit complicated. We are also looking to create some new DCP (Theatrical) files so we can do some special screening events.
Past, present and future CDI film projects. I’m excited about the pre-orders underway for my first starring feature IN THE WOODS. I have to make time to get these literary properties moving forward. We’ve got a few documentary films being worked on and a few great projects slated for next year if we can get all the planets to align. I’m going to wrap it up here and go eat some breakfast. Advanced Casting Notice and More CDI Updates!

Coffee cheers my friends! Yesterday we had a nice family reunion before the rains came. I’ve been doing a spring harvest on herbs as I noted before. We also are part of a program whereas we get fresh and sometimes exotic veggies each week grown out at Michigan State University greenhouses. I had a week off from soccer and really missed the battle. I spent some time assembling some trellis planters that will live on the new deck once that is done. My hops harvest might take a hit with the new deck build but they are hardy and will return. I’ve also got an abundance of hops from previous years. My deck prep has also included some tree-trimming which had me on a ladder with a pole saw but happy to report no falls. As I’ve noted before, I LOVE my breaks to walk amongst nature and maintain and/or harvest breaking up my desk work. I’ve been grinding out the film development work in addition to restoration and re-release or older films and working on our present film. Where to start?

Our Dean Teaster’s Ghost Town film is riding back into the market and is now on TUBI with more to follow. We are in talks to bring AN ORDINARY KILLER to streaming but the Two Average Joes Media‘s version of the HD DVD is about to release. I saw the 4k restoration and it looks beautiful. We are targeting December for a streaming release maybe with a special weekend screening of the film in the theater where it was filmed. (Owosso, Michigan) I want to cut a fresh new trailer from this film and we’ll do that soon.
Speaking on new releases and fresh trailers. KNIGHT CHILLS was released last October on Blu Ray by Saturn Core who did an awesome job. I’ve seen the new trailer now being polished up and it is really cool. I want to see if we can increase the resolution even more for a Fall streaming release. A new poster has also been in the works for the streaming release.
All the “CDI Classic Collection” is being worked on but we want to not just get it better but excellent. So FROM VENUS, HEAVEN’S NEIGHBORS and FIGURE IN THE FOREST are being worked on. The source cameras were not of the same quality as say AN ORDINARY KILLER and GHOST TOWN so that is proving to be more of a challenge.
The current film we are working on is Harsens Island Revenge. I got to see the edit of the trailer and it is exciting to say the least. The dialog clean up will be finished this week and music and sound design will become the new focus. A few pieces of music are already roughed out and it really brings it all to life. We will also see a theatrical poster and even a music video possibly. I hope to have the trailer release no later than June 23rd my birthday so we’ll see.

DEVELOPMENT – We don’t have all the pieces in play for our 70’s racing film HOT ROD LOVE so that is going back on the shelf. Instead we have two smaller scope films we are looking to do. The first will shoot in July/August time frame and is a parody comedy/horror feature called ROM COMS MUST DIE. It will be the first directed feature by Travis Hayward. Travis has been with CDI since traveling to Las Vegas to film the CDI associated WASTELAND film in the Valley of Fire. He has worked on several CDI films working his way up the ladder. We are scouting and will be doing a casting search centering in the mid-Michigan area. WRAP UP: Going back to the family reunion it was nice to chat with folks. Many I only see once a year during events like this. They often have questions on “what is next?” or “what am I working on?” What I love is how everyone has different favorite films. Pictures of my clean cut Col Lodell from SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA were looked at because my hair is getting long again. Some love WILD FAITH and several MAN’S BEST FRIEND. Once said his favorite was AN ORDINARY KILLER and yet another likes the scarier films like IN THE WOODS. The Colonel. Ben Lily. Paul Landings. Let. Lynn Kendall. Alex Kerwood. It is fun to just have people appreciate the different characters and roles. And now I’m creating a new character for this ROM COMS MUST DIE. People look forward to watching what you create so there is always a good pressure to create. The second film developing is a sequel so I know the character. Maybe that is a hint;) So while doing all this business of bringing on the biz backers, actors and the crew I will also be creating this new role to bring to the screen. It is always fun and this will be no different.
I’m also starting to look at props. I’m going to have art start to do a breakdown on the western so we can start looking for those hard to find items. I’m off to a flea market to see if I can find any treasures. Wish me luck! I’m looking forward to a great week of communicating and processing checks back to previous investors. Coffee Cheers! I want to welcome all our new readers from Germany, Brazil, Philippines and more. I hope you all are having a great weekend. We have some rain this morning that came last night. We had a few perfect warm yet cool and not humid days. I’ll have to put another mow on the yard start of the week. I did a lot of herb harvesting the last couple days. Mint, sage, chives, bee balm, catnip, red clover and more. The power of many of these herbs as tea in not commonly known. We are aware of the taste profile in cooling but many of these have powerful benefits. I drink my coffee in the morning but from noon on you will usually find me sipping a tea infusion.
I had a great soccer match later in the week that we dropped to last year champs but only by 2 goals (6-4) and we capable of taking the match had a few things gone differently. I have learned to love the other steel that sharpens my blade so to speak. My running shape is great and I’m very pleased with that. Add in some archery and my martial arts training and I’m keeping my body busy. Fuel your machine with good eats and push yourself weekly and you’ll be able to turn back that wheel of time a little. I also had a partial tree that broke off maybe fifteen feet up or so. It is really just a squirrel condo these days but the branch shoots started growing out of it rubbing the side of the house and roof. I got a ladder, a pole saw and some motivation and gave it a major cut. I created some more firewood to season ands now we’ll be ready for the July porch build.
I great week of business as we enter my birthday month. First I’m going to announce here that we tried to get up a big hill with HOT ROD LOVE, our 70’s drag racing comedy. We will not start something we cannot finish so the decision to shelf that film for another season is at hand. This is not an easy decision but one just based on facts. What we are looking to do is produce two smaller SCOPE feature films. Smaller is scope means fewer locations, characters and more local casting and crewing versus flights and lodging. As I’ve noted before those are some of the major costs. I’ve written three of these smaller scope films this year so far. I just finished one of them last week and I’ll be polishing it up Monday. The other is a smart comedic horror film that really has a lot to say about the state of our industry now. It would also be the launch of another director from within the CDI family. These smaller scope films have been developed working with our main distributor.
The second script I don’t want to discuss too much yet as I want to discuss the script once polished with our previous director. I say “previous director” because this second project is a sequel to a popular CDI film. If a deal cannot be made we will still move ahead but we’ll see how it all falls together. Currently were processing checks to return to our investors. At that time we’ll invite past investors to travel with us starting with those who backed the first film. One of the investors already got wind and has committed with excitement. Both these projects are exciting because they are diverse in flavor. The 3rd smaller scope film is being looked at by Carl Weyant, our Harsens Island Revenge director. It would film early in 2025 if everything came together. But right now we’re going to focus on the two films in front of us.

FILM UPDATES:
Harsens Island Revenge is in dialog clean up and I’m told that is going amazing thanks to the artists who captured it, the technology of the recording and the post software now available. Also I’m going to be meeting with director Carl this week and I hope to set a release date for the trailer of June 23rd (My birthday).

SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA is on the run up to the UP Family & Faith tv release which I believe is July 1st. I’ll be in talks with the distributor this forthcoming week. I hope they made some licensing deals with foreign territories at the film market in Cannes. This WW2 film should play well around the world and I’m excited that this year we might do some theatrical event screenings around the holidays.
Recently we’ve been remastering and getting some of the CDI classics remastered and ready to re-release. I’ll be sending the KNIGHT CHILLS screening link to our possible new streaming distributor. The Blu Ray release has been good but the streaming will be gold. The film is now in HD and looks great in all its dice rolling action. If you love role playing games this classic Blu Ray belongs on your shelf. The book and making of script release is also being worked on and will go out with the streaming release.

The above film was CDI’s first feature film but even before that I had a handful of film releases and my first feature role was starring in IN THE WOODS. This film was born of passion and we fought hard to fund the film and make it. We faced all kinds of challenges but ended up with a monster movie that found its way into Blockbusters, Hollywood Video, Family Video and mom and pop video stores across the land. It released in many foreign countries and it gave us our first footholds in this crazy and wonderful business. It was great to watch the podcast announcement as Terror Vision announced the new Blu Ray release. Both the remastered classic and a new streamlined director’s version that plays much better. That is what many years of hindsight can do for you. But we’re proud of both versions.

There is talk of an event theatrical screening in Kalamazoo where the film was shot. Discussions of a few Horror Con visits have taken place. And there is real talk of a sequel which would be a great full circle moment.

AN ORDINARY KILLER – We’ll be cutting a new trailer for streaming (Looking at December) in a few weeks but the classic movie and trailer has been remastered and will soon be available on a collectors HD DVD. In addition to the re-release of Knight Chills, Ghost Town and An Ordinary Killer– restoration efforts are underway on FROM VENUS, HEAVEN’S NEIGHBORS and FIGURE IN THE FOREST. It has been a joy to bring these films to new audiences. The DVD Double feature of Heaven’s Neighbors and Figure in the Forest will be going back up for sale soon!
WRAP UP:
To date, only Jesus has been my repeat role in both part 1 FORTY NIGHTS and Part 3 THE CHIRST SLAYER. It’s a compliment to even consider bringing some of the other characters back to the screen. I had some talks about returning to the biblical at some point.
We have some on-going development on a pair of films to film in Iowa. We are taking steps on one and the other is moving a tad slower. We have a few meetings coming up and perhaps we might be rolling cameras in 2025 in Iowa.

Our soccer team dropped a match but I’m loving the work out and feel as if I’m playing good. I also got to end the week with shooting some primitive archery. Some people love guns and go to the range to blow off stress. The loud aspect and ringing ears even with protection makes shooting something for hunting or self protection but not fun. But slinging arrows is something I really enjoy. My main bow is a compact recurve made by Bear. It is a classic and shoots extremely well. It was a great time and I’m going to make that more of a regular activity. I have several others bows that I want to try out for fun.

Outside I’ve been doing lots of work keeping the mowing up. But also added a new arbor and chainsawed a lilac tree of some dead branches. I chipped up the medium sized branches and the large are cut to season for burning. I wonder if they smell good while they burn? On the full moon also did some harvesting of red clover, chive and sage blossoms for tea. Many herbs have great medicinal properties in addition to food flavoring. The hops is growing great and we’ll see how they do after the new porch build which is slated for July. It will create a much bigger deck area and create a nice under deck area as well. I need to start cleaning out the space under the deck and get it ready for the build. I have at least one tree that needs a trimming to get some branches off the house. A few tree trims might need an expert. The berries are getting ready to pop with raspberries looking like they will be a bumper crop. Today we’re having the mother’s over for a grill. Venison and buffalo burgers and chicken with mushrooms and wild onions. Okay, shall we get onto some film updates?

- I think last year I expressed my sadness at the passing of my book editor at Revel/Baker Lonnie. I had written a story that had accepted for our 4th collaboration this one on birds. The new editor Katelyn reached out and the book is moving forward. I’ll promote that when the book releases nationally.
- Staying with literary – It is time to buckle-down and get the first of the CDI books rolling out under our new publishing deal. Knight Chills and Ghost Town books will likely be the first ones up. I need to get on the artwork and create an action list.
- More literary – I’ve been doing a lot of screenwriting as of late and working on a few properties that were smaller in scope meaning fewer locations and characters. This means few company moves hence fewer shoot days and lower budget. Of the three scripts we have we might elect to shoot two of them versus the HOT ROD LOVE which has a larger cast from all over the USA. I will say that the 3rd film script that I’m closing in on is a sequel to a popular film of ours. It has been a joy to write for some of these characters in the world we previously created. My only hint is – giddy up.
- Our Dean Teaster’s GHOST TOWN has been signed with Ammo Content and can now be seen on TUBI at https://tubitv.com/movies/616519/dean-teaster-s-ghost-town (FREE with ads) and will be licensing to many other platforms. I’m also told we will be releasing in the UK so please let me know my friends if it starts to show up there. We’ll do some PR on that next week but you got the intel here first!
- The true-crime film AN ORDINARY KILLER starring myself, Terence Knox, Terry Jernigan and Dan Haggerty is now being used to help the non profit The Red, White and Blue Project thanks to a fundraising effort by Two Average Joes Media who runs a podcast on true crime. They’ve remastered the film and a special HD DVD is going to be sold. Once the purchase site is up we’ll share that. We are looking to put it into the streaming market just before Christmas. I want to cut a new trailer but we’ve remastered the old one for the time being. That will be releasing soon.
- KNIGHT CHILLS which is enjoying a remastered Blu Ray release with Saturn Core/Vinegar Syndrome will be entering the streaming market this Fall. CDI’s own Adam Towner has been working on a new poster and trailer. We’ve had several meetings and I hope to see some updates this weekend.
- I got a sneak peek at some Tom Miller artwork for FROM VENUS. He did the cool artwork for KNIGHT CHILLS used in the Blu Ray release. It is looking great! We have to discuss how we want to deal with the duel format of the film – outside the comic book is letter box and inside the comic book is full screen. Unique in concept but now we have to decide what to do in the remastering. Maybe a matte of the comic book old old school TV matte.
- Remastering tests continue on FIGURE IN THE FOREST and HEAVEN’S NEIGHBORS. I do want to get the double DVD featuring the two films for sale. Both are great films directed by CDI’s own Jeff Kennedy.
- I got to see the first cut of the music video we just did with SHALLOW RISING and it looks great. The previous video is suppose to release this month and when it is we’ll promote it on here.
- I had a great meeting with my friends at McGraw Multimedia where we are discussing some exciting collaborations. We also had a great meeting discussing pulling together various artistic companies in the Lansing area. If it all gels it could be BIG for Lansing. Stage, screen and video games all under one roof. I’m in talks with them for future supervision of production which I’ve discussed with various companies out west but I had/have no interest in leaving our state. This facility would be exactly 7 minutes from my house which makes it ideal.

I feel as if I have a few additional updates but I’m going to wrap it up here. I have some breakfast to get after and I have to get the grill ready. I’m looking forward to a day of friends and family. I love catching up on some of the TO DO’s around the property. This forthcoming week I’ll finish the script I’m working on and we’ll have some developmental talks. I will say that we’re discussing a return to the Alpena area to work with some of the fine folks we’ve already met and worked with on Harsens Island Revenge. SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA is preparing for it’s TV debut on UP FAMILY & FAITH channel and I’m anxious to hear if the film did some licensing in Cannes, France. Harsens Island Revenge is having sound design, dialog and musical score all worked on. We overcame the few tech issues we were having with software. The reports coming in on dialog are wonderful and I’m told will be some of the best yet. That is technology for you both in source capture and clean up. A long ways from our small DAT players. The trailer and theatrical poster are being worked on and I hope to have a first draft by end of the month. My goal would be to release a trailer on my June 23rd Bday. We will see if the team can make that happen.

I might have a Knight Chills trailer by that time also. Our 1st film and our most recent film side by side. That is growth. We’ve learned so much from set back and success. We’re excited to move into new territory. We’ve been planning some big things for 2025 production-wise. I had a great meeting with John Mashni, one of our producers and our legal consultant. We were preparing breakdowns to release $ back to investors on the current films. Additionally we’re discussing the future which has some very promising opportunities. Music Videos, Morels, UP TV and Updates
Hazelnut coffee cheers! What a week it has been and the weekend has been full also. I want to welcome our new readers from Brazil, Germany, European Union and more. Please do invite folks to follow along with our little weekly break. We’ll discuss more of the business aspects here soon but around the property I’m trying to keep up with mowing. Yesterday did some major trimming to a lilac tree and we constructed a cedar arbor that was from Christmas. Luckily it was not too hard to construct. We still have a planter with a built in trellis to build. The hops is growing like mad but I worry about their health this year as they climb up the deck. This Summer we’re going to bite the bullet and have a new deck built. It is needed and will be greatly enjoyed. It will also create a space under the porch too which one day will house the hot tub I want to soak my bones. UPDATE: After weeks of morel hunting and finding nothing I had pretty much given up. This morning as the window curtain was being closed what do you think was so big it was seen from ten feet away? MOREL! A closer look outside found a half dozen mushroom trees! One had to be sacrificed to the bugs. But they were so big and heavy they were drooping over. The largest morels I’ve seen in the wild top date.
In a bit we’ll be walking the flea market close to us. Last week we went to one and all I got was a door mat for the office. It was a Bigfoot mat which puts a few smiles on faces. We went to a living estate sale yesterday of someone we know and it was a fun adventure. I got some great cast iron hardware for gates and such. And also a large collection of high end tea blends. I’m a tea drinker starting about noon. So far my favorite I’ve tried was a Scottish blend. Malty with a unique taste that brings about thoughts of peat bogs and bagpipes. I really do enjoy such little treasures. I will be trying different teas for several weeks. Let’s take a look at some bullet points of top developments in the film world.
- Post Production has been working to get all the software aligned for the Harsens Island Revenge sound work. The cut is locked and we’ll evaluate progress end of July so we can more accurately predict a finish date and plan a premiere. We all want Fall versus Spring but that will all depend on how the next few weeks go. A trailer preview is almost half way done with its edit and a theatrical poster is being discussed.
- The deal was signed on THE RED WHITE AND BLUE PROJECT charity release of AN ORDINARY KILLER. A based on a true story crime drama of a two decade plus cold case solved by persistent detective work led by Vietnam vet Lynn Kendall. The podcast Two Average Joes Media had the film remastered and is coming out on a dual layer HD DVD. We’ll be doing PR once we have a place that you can buy the DVD. Also thinking of doing a return to theaters special showing whereas DVD’s can be purchased after. We will see but this film is returning and this time for a good cause- helping military families. We will looking at streaming maybe mid December.
- The Smoky Mountain western GHOST TOWN has also been remastered and is returning to the market. We’ll be announcing some streaming release platforms in the coming weeks. A new 2024 trailer has been released and we might also do a few special event showings in N. Carolina, we will see. We plan to do some great retrospective interviews and stories in the media in the coming weeks.
- A new deal between CDI and a publisher has been made that will output our novelization and scripts/making of books to Amazon in soft and hardcover. Both the films above have books and we’ll likely do making of/script releases also.
- KNIGHT CHILLS which was remastered and is available on BluRay is being prepped for streaming release this Fall. The book and script/making of are being assembled and will also be rolling out. We are working on a new trailer and poster art.
- SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA is starting to see the flow from home video and we want to thank all the good folks out there who actually bought the DVD to own. We sold over 2,000 DVD’s right out of the gate launching us past our marketing cost and into profit. We know streaming is even stronger and so we look forward to see how the flow increases in the coming year. The film is also getting ready to start its UP FAMILY & FAITH TV run which will bring the film to even more audiences. The film is currently being shopped in Cannes France and we hope many countries will get the chance to see this powerful WW2 drama based on a true story. Thank you to all of you who have shown your amazing support for this film. We will also explore putting it back into theaters for this upcoming Christmas season.
- Speaking of the Iowa based film SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA we are working to develop two other Iowa based motion pictures. One based on the Spirit Lake Massacre and one based on the state hero Frank Gotch, world champion wrestler. We are making some progress but not as fast as we would like. We wanted to film next year but that is all dependent upon funding. Development is one step at a time.
- I’m about a third of the way into my third script in the last three months. We’ve been working at the development of our 70’s film and have some of the funding in place just not what we require. We’re going to give it a few more weeks but are prepared to produce 2-3 smaller scope films if needed. I’m really enjoying this third writing endeavor as its a sequel film to one of our very popular films. We’re getting ready this week to start processing payout back to our investors which might encourage a few of our art loving supporters to jump onboard these new stories. I was delayed by 2 weeks waiting for checks on three of the films to come in. They were all sent the same time but the US postal service was a tad slow. But they arrived on Friday and so we’re good to start that process.
- We did the second music video for the same band last week at Golden Hour Virtual Studios. It was a great place ran by nice people. We really enjoyed working in the space and we’ll be using it again. The previous video is releasing end of the month while this video moves into post production. I’ll wait for them to release their own PR before talking about it too much. But I will say that it absolutely ROCKED!
- I’ve submitted my new headshots to Treasure Coast Talent Agency and I’ll give folks a link once it is open and available. I’m going to try and finish narration work for a book series I’ve been doing. I am getting a tad excited to get back in front of the camera and create a character. With a bit more work I’ll be able to bring you a few new roles.
- An interview for a new CDI associated documentary film was shot this Saturday and discussion on another are soon to happen. It is another class of filmmaking but one I also enjoy. What are some of your favorite documentary films?

I’m going to start to wrap it up now. I’ve got some screenwriting underway and some PR I could start outlining. If the rain holds off I might do a bit more outside work also. I’m excited to see where all the pieces fall in development. I know that Harsens Island Revenge is going to be a great story enjoyed by many. NEW Screen Captures, Updates and Inspirations
Good afternoon! This morning I’m fueled up on hazelnut coffee and we went to the first flea market of the season. I love the energy and the nostalgic aspects of it all. I only found a wood sign that I liked for the office but breakfast afterwards made the trip worthwhile. I often find many film props or wardrobe pieces while on these hunts. I saw the vendor who sold me the 1940’s phone we used in SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA in my office scenes as the Colonel. I told him he would have to watch the film on Amazon and see his antique phone.
I spent a good part of the week buried in numbers balancing accounts and writing out checks to the accounting firm who keeps us moving forward. I’ll have a few days rest before the next quarter of profit checks start coming in and I’ll have to process those. Again the unsexy side of filmmaking but the part that makes it all go round and round. We’ve been engaged in several conversations to bring investors and sponsors onto our next film project HOT ROD LOVE. We’ve also been putting financial pieces in place on several other films for 2025. I’m ready like many filmmakers to dive into locations, cast and the artistic side needed to bring a time period to life. This next film will be in the very cool 70’s. The music, the fashion and the vibe is just groovy. We’re making good progress on the investor/sponsor fronts and I think many folks just wanted to get past end of the year taxes. I’m getting excited to refocus on the pre-production on a new film because our current film is about to move to the next phase.
Harsens Island Revenge (HIR) recently gave folks a look at behind-the-scenes with CDI. Adam Towner did a wonderful job. This week we’ll be watching the 3rd and likely final pass of the film. We call that a picture lock which allows us to start really working dialogue, music and sound design. I’m told that several if not all the 61 VFX effects will be inside the film this week when we watch it. I love the phase of hanging at the studio and reviewing, suggesting and enjoying the progress. Our director Carl Weyant released another batch of screen captures which you can watch on the HIR Facebook page. Once the film goes into picture lock we’ll release a BTS of the VFX work. Followed by a theatrical trailer and poster. In July we’ll take an assessment on our post process which will help us solidify the premiere process. Much more to come on this amazing film.
We continue to push the many films in the CDI library and appreciate all the new fans. We are also in the process of remastering the earlier CDI Classic Collection. This podcast on true crime did a new updated special on our Making of this film. Even more exciting is the upcoming release of a special presentation – a remastered version of the movie exclusively with Two Average Joes as part of a fundraiser for The Red, White and Blue Project. We are also getting close to relaunching a newly remastered version of GHOST TOWN also. A new trailer from our talented friend Brett Frame will likely launch this coming week. New poster art might also be in the works although we do like one of the posters from the original park release. We are still aligning all the business behind this film but it is returning! RETURN to Ghost Town!
Several other films such as KNIGHT CHILLS, FROM VENUS, HEAVENS NEIGHBORS and FIGURE IN THE FOREST are all being worked on for re-release after being digitally remastered. Some of the films have novelizations with them that will be getting a release. Also some of the scripts with fun extras about the making of them. I’ve seen some fun peeks at new artwork from Tom Miller who did the great Blu Ray art for KNIGHT CHILLS. My goal is to get them all remastered and streaming! It will be done. The theatrical division of CDI made a big jump with SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA and we’ll be prepping the entire library of theatrical event showings. A midnight movie screening of FROM VENUS? KNIGHT CHILLS? Even some of the associated CDI films are in talks for fresh distribution. But we’re going to get the CDI collection finished first. But after that…

Happy Early Easter! Embracing the Battles!
Good afternoon! My hazelnut coffee is at an end but it occurred to me looking at my tomorrow that it will be hard to get my writing in with family, friends and Easter. I want to welcome all our new readers including some from North Macedonia which I need to explore as I know little of this place North or South, East or West. I just read up on it and looking at pictures. What a beautiful place. Welcome! I have to say that I’ve been waking up daily with good energy and optimism as I attack my TO DO’s each week. I’ve been reminded how special each day is again with the loss of one of our supporters and investors which I’ll post more on next week. But these stories will and do live past us carrying the stories to new generations. CDI is now multigenerational with several folks retired from the business or all business. I do have close schoolmate friends soon to retire. I had lunch a week ago or so with one preparing for retirement by building his woodworking shop. I’m on the Rance Howard & Bill McKinney plan which is to work right up to when they throw dirt on me. I might slow down one day and become more selective but I love to create. Another close member of the early CDI films Bill Bishop is facing some health issues in his late years. He is the man responsible for many of the exciting explosions in our films working as pyrotechnics and often armorer. Wicked Spring, The Nest, Judges, From Venus and more in a time when digital explosions was rare. Strapping a small explosive squib on your body was commonplace. Some scenes were made easier requiring one to muster less acting because you were REACTING. Watch the final scene of THE NEST and those chain of explosions were real and I was really running for my life. Well, it felt that way. FX HOT! Man that got your blood really pumping when you heard those words and saw ole Uncle Bill with a dynamite plunger and knowing you had wires running up your pant leg to a small explosive. Watch Matthew Broderick in GLORY‘s end scene, he knows what I mean. Bill has COPD bad and if anyone who worked with Bill wants to send him a card and well wishes his address is on the CDI Facebook site.

Sunday is Easter and that day always makes me think of THE QUEST TRILOGY, the 3 biblical films we shot in the Yuma desert. The first film in the trilogy FORTY NIGHTS will be 10 years since we filmed in 2025. Hard to believe. I’ve been collecting stories from our three directors and plan to release a book in 2025 full of beautiful pictures and stories. Maybe the scripts we will see. If you have not watched these films please do. They are not heavy handed but were inspired by the old biblical dramas done by Chuck Heston. I think people will appreciate the fresh perspective.

I’ve been balancing my time between past, present and future. We are trying to streamline our business flow this year especially with the older “classic” CDI films. Many are being converted into HD files and many will be returning back into the market this year. Presently we have Harsens Island Revenge making of, trailer and main feature all in the works. And future-wise we’ve been in funding mode on a few different projects. I had a great meeting Friday on both a new CDI film and one project that will be in association with CDI. All very exciting as we look ahead and this next month will be really pushing hard to finish getting financial commits for our Summer/Fall CDI film HOT ROD LOVE. We took more steps towards our goal and we have to just stay focused. Some of the other projects are prepping for filming next year. And one for next winter which is almost ready to present to our funding source I’m just working up a cool poster to present with it. All very exciting and I’m reminded as I look back at how far we’ve come as a company.

I sincerely hope that the year continues to lead you to your goals and you find happiness. Recently reminded of the Samurai wisdom pertaining to the battles we all face. Embrace them because battles are the challenges of life. Quiet and peaceful graveyards are full of those who no longer battle. We will all eventually lay there to so until that time of rest embrace the battles. Laugh at the missteps and smile at the experience and wisdom gained by taking the wrong path. I’m working on not reacting emotionally to certain situations which can be made hard when you care about the outcome so badly and want success for all. Again I live by BEST EFFORTS and that is all we can truly do. A life of strawberries is enough phase I heard this week that stuck with me. To enjoy each day, passing week and the endeavors we undertake.

I want to thank some of the fans who reached out this week. No I have not played a western villain but perhaps one day. Yes. I do love comedy and our next film will give audiences a good dose of that from myself and many others. Will I do another horror film? I would say that is very likely. Until we all gather to sip a beverage and reflect, I hope your weekend is relaxing and enjoyable. I’ve been using the day to organize my workshop and basement to get ready for the springtime activities. From Christmas we have a few outdoor things to assemble in the coming weeks. I look forward to growing and gathering in the coming months. We grow some of our own teas and we’re going to once again be getting veggies from MSU’s agricultural program. I look forward to more grilling the few nice days we had were a good tease. I love when our CDI meetings can take place over darts or some other outdoor game. Soccer season and flea markets are right around the corner.

An ‘Official Wrap’ on Harsens Island Revenge and More Updates!
Good morning new readers from Portugal, India, Philippines, Denmark and the UK. Maybe my Indian friends can help me – what is the S. Indian coffee secret? I had that brought to my room every morning in India when filming KARMA. I want to seek it out here and see if I can find some. Yes. It rivals my hazelnut coffee I’m so fond of. So this morning I am well rested but yesterday eve I was pretty exhausted. Why?
For several weeks I’ve been prepping for what would be about 3 min on the screen but it was worth it. After watch the first cut of the film we knew we needed the close up shoots of our pilot and lead attacking some ‘Purple Gang’ property. The 1927 plane was far from Alpena where we filmed and so we needed close ups to match with our other footage of the flight. Movie magic in full effect starting at noon on Friday had us capturing our sequence and establishing shot of the plane that will be seen outside the hanger scene we shot at the Alpena Air Force base. Our crew had to travel in a snow storm but all arrived safe and we had such generous hosts that helped us get what we needed in a 2.5 hour period.
After the plane shoot it was traveling downstate to some beautiful property belonging to our transport captain Dane DeFord. This was the sit for our opening scene to the entire movie. It takes place in WW1 whereas a group of German soldiers are awaiting mechanics to come fix their tank. When I wrote the scene I always envisioned a cold miserable day where the poor soldiers are trying to stay warm. Our film’s hero is sent to deal with these Germans in hopes of capturing a tank. Let’s just say that after several temps of 60’s+ degrees that threatened to give us a very different day we ended up getting exactly what we wanted! Beautiful falling snow that just made the scene so cinematic.
These snowy conditions look great on camera but are hard on cast and crews. But with our scaled down team we got the perfect scene. And we had such a great time all together filming it. Great re-enactors to bring our German’s to life with Mark E. Holmes (Silent Night in Algona) playing our lead German. Mark Balko and his Pepsi team really came through with catering and craft services. Thank you Mangos from Alpena! We had campfires going in the woods and we were storytelling again. The magic of it all and after weeks of hard work it was all worth it.
I want to thank everyone involved. GW Burns our production designer was in from Florida and got a wake up call on Michigan snow. After nine hours trucking through heavy snow I was beat at midnight when I finally started my trek home. I had 4 deer run in front of me, 1 beside my car racing me and 1 huge buck who almost came in front of me but decided against it. I see why Dane who likes to hunt lives there, deer city. I had a restless night because my body felt beat up like after a soccer game and I drank too much coffee later at night. My furry son Finn had been under the weather with upset stomach and was restless and so that night gave me little sleep.
Up and more coffee before off to the sound studio with David Reardon our young lead. With Dennis Therrian and our director Carl we got all our narration. I even laid down a line of two for Axel on the phone in the film. A stop to drop off our rented US “doughboy” uniform and I was home. My Finn was doing better and last night was a peaceful sleep. Again none of this is easy and at CDI we work hard. There is no half ass here as my dad would say. So we need to enact a refund on one hotel in Jackson that did not live up to its pictures and a few expenses to report but the film is now an official WRAP. All the pieces of the puzzle are complete. We’ll have a few weeks to tweak and add these shots into the film but soon it will be locked and music and sound design will start. Adam Towner should be finishing up the Behind the Scenes and we are now working on a theatrical poster and first trailer to likely release end of April.
SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA– Curran Jacobs is going to be doing a meet-n-greet in Algona and the film is an official selection at the upcoming ICFF. We have our own Cassie Dean, Shane Hagedorn and Dennis Therrian up for honors. The film will start playing on UP FAMILY & FAITH this Summer which is exciting. The DVD’s are still selling and streaming is giving many a peek at the film.

HOT ROD LOVE – I just did a fresh read on our Summer film HOT ROD LOVE. We picked up another investment piece this week bringing us to about 35% financed and climbing. With this pick up shoot in the rearview mirror I can devote even more energy to the next film. So starting Monday more sponsor and investor talks. We want to get the business behind us so we can focus on the creative.
Additional Development-
We also have funding talks starting up on SPIRIT LAKE MASSACRE and GOTCH. I’m looking forward to a read on the updated Gotch script end of next week. I’m also happy to say that the Victorian/Steampunk script I was working on is finished and I’m extremely happy with the final story. I’ll send that around to a few of the producers this week to take a read. We’ve also been doing some organizing and updating of the quality of some of the older CDI films by converting them to HD. I’m going to be doing some checking on those this week and it will be fun to watch in the new vivid form.
I’m not going to go much further with updates as I like to get things complete before reporting on them. But I know people are anxious and want to know what is next so I try to keep you all updated. When GW Burns was in town I had him snap a few new headshots for the new agent so I’ll be looking into those. I’m going to try and recharge a bit before hitting it hard again starting on Monday! Hazelnut cheers my friends! Welcome to our readers worldwide including new readers from Argentina, Kenya, Ireland and India. I love that our circle is wide. We may be from different places where the lines on a map are drawn differently and various languages may be spoke BUT we all have those same artistic calls. I’ve had a very artistic filled week with a good dash of business. Michigan got another cold snap but unseasonably warm weather is coming next week. I want to also give a BIG shout out to two of my generals in getting things done. Our own Tony Hornus and Shane Hagedorn, both masterful talent on both sides of the camera both were born on this day. So a HUGE happy birthday to them both. Shane is getting a well earned few days of rest in the sunshine state of Florida including a visit with GW Burns, our new CDI production designer. Some good talks over our next film endeavor will no doubt be happening. Dennis Therrian is excited to watch the cut of Harsens Island Revenge and start bouncing music bed ideas off our director Carl Weyant. Carl should have gotten back from Brazil on Friday and I’m looking forward to connecting with him this week. Where to start on my update or maybe this just random format fits the energy.

OLD SCHOOL – I’ve spoke several times about my humble beginnings in the film world. I struggled for many years to the point of many saying I should let go of my pipe dream. Persistence is a key in this business and without you will likely fail. Patience is another key and is hard for many to grasp. It is a lesson in discipline. My first feature film was a creature feature called IN THE WOODS. I starred as rookie firefighter Alex Kerwood. It is the manifestation of some young hungry artists forcing their way into the industry. We wanted to just get into the game and that we did. The film was not without flaws as inexperience and budgetary restraints were met with passion and enthusiasm. The film was released heavily into the US market and into many countries around the world. It put us on the map so to speak. The film had critics but also fans. I recall the Adrian MI the film playing in conjunction with The Haunting a once major Halloween attraction. The town was plastered with IN THE WOODS on fliers at McDonalds, billboards, news, radio and more. I remember when the line to get signed autographs was 400 strong. That showed the power of the medium. Hard-core horror fans had some issues because the film flew against the formula of the time. Annoying victims, cool villain and when and how would they die. This was a bit more of a soap opera with firefighter drama and ADD in monsters. The two factors that played heavily maybe not seen at that time was- women like scary films too but they like character development. Women also like firefighters. So the positive fans of the film tilted heavily with the lady-folk. While men wanted their “boobs and blood” women seemed to like the blood too but could use a dose of men in uniform. The fans were there then and now 25 years later we’re giving them a new polished up version plus a new director’s cut with added footage and more streamline editing. I traveled to Kalamazoo where we filmed on Friday and we saw the new cut and did commentary for the blu-ray that will feature both films. A new release campaign is rolling out this year with BluRay, DVD, VHS (Yes), streaming, new book releases (which I will list) and even soundtrack and toys. A great reunion with director/writer Lynn Drzick, Stuart MacDonald (Al Fargo), Jim Greulich (Wayne Higley) and me (Alex Kerwood). After the fresh watch and commentary we had several hours by the fire discussing plot points for the planned sequel. Yes. IN THE WOODS 2 is in active development. We all agreed to go back into the woods again to have round 2 against the creatures who will also be getting upgrades. The plot points and story threads are pretty exciting. It will be fun to bring these characters back to the screen. It was fun even doing a bit of Alex Kerwood audio work for the new release. We did try to launch a sequel a few years after the first film but it was too soon. We even did a teaser trailer years ago that I’ll share but this new film will be one for the books. The chemistry was there when we sat around the fire playing out some scenes in character – the magic was back.

The BluRay is full of great extras and we’re working to set up the HD streaming on some select horror film streaming sites. Also the book and script will get the literary release treatment very soon. It’s in the works! A sequel has been talked about for years and we have various scripts and have interviewed many filmmaker teams. We’re still working to get that just right but in the meantime we’ll introduce a new generation to Sir Kallio, Dark Knight of the Red Rose.

MORE OLD SCHOOL:
CDI’s Second film FROM VENUS has some Tom Miller (Knight Chills) artwork underway and we’re discussing the Blu Ray deal. FIGURE IN THE FOREST & HEAVEN’S NEIGHBORS will eventually get the HD treatment and we’ll look to make those available. We have a DVD double feature which we’ll work to make more available. The genre films are a touch easier to set up right now.
AN ORDINARY KILLER and GHOST TOWN – Our true story crime drama and Smoky Mt western are also getting a planned new release campaign. These two films will start with a planned theatrical release. Both will be getting a new remastered theatrical DCP film and a Blu Ray release. The collector’s edition DVD from the Ghost Town in the Sky theme park will also become available perhaps at the theaters concession that plays the film. Lotta ground work to do but technical-wise it’s all underway including a new theatrical trailer for Ghost Town. These two films will likely do a theatrical release around where they were filmed to start with. But CDI’s theatrical division is getting stronger in the wake of SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA.
SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA just played another theater in Cherokee, Iowa and we’ll keep processing requests of folks wanting to watch on the big screen. Meanwhile I’m happy to announce that people who subscribe to Up Family & Faith will be able to watch our WW2 drama starting July 1st and it will run there for a year. It’s still available to rent on many platforms at will. Thank you to those who are watching and referring it to friends and family. The DVD’s are selling well also and so again thank you. Some of the proceeds from sales are directly helping the two participating museums in Algona.

Harsens Island Revenge was talked about earlier and those anxiously awaiting will be treated at the end of the month to the ‘behind the scenes’ video showing the hard work and fun of making a CDI film. Next month my plan is to release the first teaser trailer and soon after the theatrical poster.
HOT ROD LOVE – We have more funders interested in getting behind this movie. We are awaiting to see to what degree and we’re in talks with many other parties old and new. This 1970’s story will be a blast to film. Our director Shane Hagedorn will be meeting with our production designer in FL to discuss some elements of the film. We’ll be doing a location scout soon at the race track location. Too early to sound the battle horns but we’re getting there. Also we’re getting some sponsors on board joining Pepsi and so if you have interest of getting your company involved please do reach out to me. It is a unique marketing opportunity for sure.
MISC. DEVELOPMENT
Monday I have another development meeting and we’re close to signing and announcing on it. Also I’m bringing on a local Iowa artists to assist us in the funding of SPIRIT LAKE MASSACRE. Additionally, I’m 1/3 of the way through a new/old script that might be filmed next winter. It is a cool stylized piece and will make a great feature film. I’m looking to have some talks next week that might put some fire under the WILD FAITH: HASTINGS TV series. Steps. Steps. Steps. I’m ready for some eggs so I’m going to bring this to a close. The ‘Artistic Perception’ and Several Updates!

Good morning my friends! I’m sipping on the coffee and looking forward to again sharing a few thoughts, updates and insights. This blog has been getting even more followers as friends share the blog with others. The artistic spirit can feel like a curse when you are unable to live it fully. But know it is a spirit that can manifest in all that you do. How you write a memo. How you lay our a display. Art can manifest at any job you do and often inspire outside of work art, if you do not get to do art full time (yet). I had a great meeting with our friend Mark at Pepsi and let me tell you the man possesses an artist’s spirit. It has taken him a bit to see that but every gardener is an artist and more. Every leader who uses creative endeavors and programs to nurture the best from his employees and co-workers is an artist. Leadership is an art to be sure. Art is to feel and ultimately to care, because you have something to say. That art can cause or stimulate the artistic receptors in others like when looking at a painting or a sculpture. Thinking of you Greg Zivic. Back to Mark who we met because of good people networking starting with Graham Turner, a health and fitness trainer friend. He started sitting in on meetings and was my martial arts partner when working out the action sequences for Man’s Best Friend with John Lennox. He brought his expertise in one area to CDI’s health and hospitality. This is our expanded version of craft service. Now he’s worked up into the office as a production coordinator. He’s an artist. True artists attract other artists who can sense sincerity and intent.

Full circle to Mark Balko at Pepsi who is more than just a contact he is a tribe member. He found a group who understood his artistic urges and did not feel odd or outcast but accepted. ART is the secret to doing great things. Anyone can follow instructions and bake but those who take it to another level is art. Grilling – we can all but flame to meat but for a true grill master it becomes an art. You should look for the art in all you do and some are already fully aware of it. ART is EVERYWHERE because it is a PERCEPTION! It can make your smaller market distributor a top in the country, GO Alpena Bears! It can make melt-in-your mouth pork and cakes that are almost a shame to cut into. Sometimes you don’t have to seek out a different circle of artists sometimes it is just being the one who stimulates that in others. Thus the art of leadership. All interconnected. I hope this helps a few of you to look at things differently. But I want to thank Mark at Pepsi for their sponsorship of CDI and our films. HOT ROD LOVE 2024 – We’re pushing into new talks with potential investors and sponsors on our 1970’s dramedy with drag racing at the heart of it. We had more commitments this week and have additional meetings next week. We are taking steady steps forward to get the business foundation in place. It is a 90% business and 10% creative until we get all our financial ducks in a row. That is what the producers at CDI do is work to get those things in place. This film will be a blast to produce and I cannot wait to go location scout. With nicer weather we might do that sooner vs later but again I don’t like to get to deep on all that until we are a full go. We call that a GREEN LIGHT. Ironic isn’t it with a racing movie. The official start of pre-production. I’ll keep you informed as we move forward. Right now we are focused on those two things funders and sponsors. Harsens Island Revenge (HIR) UPDATES! I had an almost two hour talk with our director Carl Weyant while he is still in Brazil. He returns Feb 14th and we’ll get together soon after. He was working on the final 20 minutes of the film edit. With end credits and the opening scene we still have to shoot we are guessing 1:45 min runtime. Once Carl has landed back here we’ll plan our final scene shoot and also do a watch on the cut before tweaks and a picture lock. The Behind-the-scenes is being worked on and I’ll get a better ETA on that but my goal is end of the month. Once our director is back we’ll be working the theatrical poster and trailer. The trailer will help us now if a 3rd party theatrical will be getting involved in booking or if our theatrical division at CDI will handle. We had a good run with our previous release and I think we can do even better second time around. So either way, it will be a successful run. More on HIR next week but exciting things ahead.
SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA – The film just went back into Cherokee, Iowa’s American 3 theaters for a run last week in January. I know we’ve had some additional requests and I met with Shane Hagedorn end of week to pass along some returned DCP files for theatrical play. The home video release is still going strong and I’m just so happy that this story is growing each week. I’ll know second quarter how strong the film is doing since it released 4th quarter of 2023. It is all a process and the wheel turns. We still have broadcast TV and ad-based video on demand later in the year. Plus foreign sales should start appearing as the film travels to the film markets and gets picked up. The two museums in the town of Algona are already benefitting from the film just off our theatrical thanks to The Donald Tietz Foundation. Preserving history and helping the community! We should all strive to do such things.

THE QUEST TRILOGY – As the sun and light starts its return and will slowly bring us out of winter we’ll soon be approaching the spring season of Easter. These three films have become a gems of the season and we’re so appreciative of all the fans who’ve made them a tradition. If you want to take some time for deep contemplation and to feel inner happiness take a watch. I watch them at least once a year and they always make my day better. Part 1 is FORTY NIGHTS, Part 2 CHASING THE STAR and Part 3 THE CHRIST SLAYER. Don’t let the title of part 3 throw you as it is a lesson unto itself that will make since once you watch the film. For you fans of Harsens Island Revenge, it stars our director Carl Weyant and he does a great job. MISC: I could write a nice bit about each and every film but I will not take your time with that. But I want to thank all the fans of LOST HEART, MAN’S BEST FRIEND, BEST YEARS GONE and WILD FAITH who’ve reached out. I also want to thank all the people who reached out about my new agency for acting. I put my everything into the #tribeCDI and often neglect myself because I’m very fulfilled. I’ve been on the posters, the physical media art and so on. I really do enjoy seeing my fellow artists spotlighted.
I’m feeling good about by decision with Treasure Coast Agency because I like how they treat people. I got to experience that as the producer approaching them and dealing with them so I know first hand. So again thank you and soon I’ll be listed on their site. I’m looking into some new pics of ME not any of my numerous characters. That is hard because I’m always creating. Even now ‘Woody Jr.’ from HOT ROD LOVE is starting to form:)
In addition to my actor materials I’m trying to polish up my social media. I love the instagram mainly because of them allowing little musical snippets with your postings. So if you want to follow me there my new handle is officialdjperry so join me there. I do have two Facebook pages because the home page Richard Perry (DJ Perry) is limited two 5k and I’ve got about 2k in folks waiting so I started a DJ Perry run over page. It is also helpful when I have lots of PR that I don’t want to collide. So I’m trying to get my social media stuff up to par but I know it is lacking somewhat. I’m excited to meet this week over my FIRESIDE CHAT WITH DJ PERRY podcast that Adam Towner will be producing. We will be filming the first one this month and we’ll see how that goes. Many of you enjoyed the little video snippets I’ve done when my WordPress here was giving me trouble.

Aside from all this film and marketing work I’ve been preparing for spring. I love the nature around me and I’ve been in deeper study of my herbs and fungi and the beneficial properties. I’m looking forward to the herb gardens and we’re going to plant more clover around the yard. The chickens are slowly starting their egg laying again which for that we’re happy. This year we’ll be making several upgrades to the yard. I’m going to rebuild our compost bin and maybe add a few rain barrels. This week will probably have me do some more log splitting with the new set of axes. Last go around with Adam Towner and Graham Turner we killed two of the axes. But this warm spell will let me do a final round of splitting to be ready for the last blast of winter. Also soccer season is right around the corner and I could not be more excited.
I’m going to call it good here because I have to go eat and do some reorganizing to the office/fort after getting the new fridge in there. I’m looking forward to spending time with my brother and a few friends later in the day. Might do a run to a farm supply store to get a new snow shovel. My U shaped handle wide shovel is the best one I’ve ever had. Eliminates back pain and gives a strong arm and chest workout. It got a bit of a crunch with my cousin Bart Ketner stopped over. I should have had it in a better place. But on the positive he helped me string new lights up in the office/fort including a customized one he built. Plus he’s gonna get my yard chipper working. He’s a ‘Handy Andy’ as I like to say. I appreciate having him when my skills reach an end. But each year I get a bit better at my tinkering thanks to my handy friends. I am a work-in-progress:)
PS: RIP to Carl Weathers a great on-screen talent. I never met him but his loss felt personal having grown up loving his work.

Christmas 2023 – Good Tidings and Joy
I’m sitting here after another near non-stop day of prep for a holiday trifecta of family get togethers with another on the 30th. I know this is a time for many to reflect upon past holidays and days gone by. I know this time of the year can be hard for those who’ve had loss. We all have empty spots around the table missing grandparents, parents, siblings and dear friends. I had a close friend lose his father today and those losses hurt us all. We are the ones giving the comforting hug or receiving it when it is our time. I had another friend’s memorial a week earlier and that makes these times painted with bittersweet. One of my cousins today was sending me pics of past days and that sparked emotion. I felt like Clark Griswold watching old films in the attic. But it is good to remember even when it hurts a little. Usually a smile will come as we recall funny stories from those past days. Even past pets bring those happy and sad feelings. But we have a new pack of love here with our two dogs and our new kitty Sybil. All are adopted and bring joy into our lives. That is the turning wheel of life. So love on your loved ones and if you are alone consider an adopted pet. They can truly bring joy back into your life.

We also had a furnace issue resulting in a lack of heat. We just had a new one installed a year ago but the problem is that the old one we knew. Yes. It looked like something from Freddy Krueger’s boiler room but we knew it. This new one is very efficient but looks like something that could be found on a spaceship. We looked about and tried a reset but dealing with electricity and gas is unnerving. No dice. So we went to sleep praying we did not have a gas leak. The slowly declining heat was not too bad thanks to the warm weather we are having. The next morning we got ahold of our installer also a friend. The reset button I was trying to find on my own was so small five of them might fit on a penny and between two wires. Ultimately it was a dirty sensor that had to be removed, wiped down and presto. HEAT! But man, you need to know where everything is. Being Christmas and a friend we got off very reasonable but I can see where some would be paying up for a simple service. BUT, they have meters and equipment that are costly and I know that even moving a diesel service truck is costly. I’m thankful and I now know how to clean a sensor. Okay that sensor.
While doing some work this week I did my yearly Christmas watch on The Quest Trilogy. This unique exploration of three interwoven biblical stories always invokes deep thought and positive feelings. Forty Nights, Chasing the Star and The Christ Slayer. Watch them in that order and I think you will take something positive away. They can be watched many places but on Encourage TV you can watch free with ads. Truly a challenging role for me and a massive undertaking filming all three of those in the desert. Filmmakers earn their desert stripes by filming in a desert. If you know, you know.
SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA has been sweeping across the country. I was sent a link this morning where it was talked about on a National talk show (Clay Travis & Buck Sexton) to an audience of 10 million + folks. Our national PR doesn’t really kick in until the first of the year but people are renting and buying it. They’re traveling back to 1944 and experiencing a true story that is a bright spot in human history even though it happened during the very dark time of WW2. It is important that we don’t lose those stories and I want to thank our investors and sponsors for making this project happen. I want to thank our cast and crew and my producer team led by director Anthony Hornus. He was the director of Man’s Best Friend which is one of the most talked about films with fans I meet. This film is an amazing follow up and really shows the heart ‘Tony’ puts in his storytelling. But that heart and passion can be found in most all our CDI tribe. I love what I do and much of that is because I love the people I work with and I love the fans who reach out to tell us how they’ve been touched. It was a VERY hard film to make but it was all worth it. I’m glad it is complete and now being seen by the world.
I had some great conversations about upcoming and developing projects. I believe that projects will find a way if they are meant to be manifested. That doesn’t mean sitting and just waiting- it takes packaging and aligning. Countless calls, meetings and the hard work of a strong core of producers. Audiences can already rest assured that another CDI story is coming at you in 2024. Harsens Island Revenge is coming together currently being edited in Brazil. We were closing on the first hour of our story in my last director update. I always like to take the path of modesty but everyone associated with that project knows we have something very special coming. Early in 2024 audiences should be getting their first look with a teaser trailer with the first music by the one and only Dennis Therrian. With the amazing photos by GW Burns a new advanced theatrical poster will be coming.
KNIGHT CHILLS has been fun to revisit. It was CDI’s 1st film and is now on BluRay and selling well. The extras are a great source of learning and inspiration for new or upcoming filmmakers. Thank you to all the fans of this little film. Big things might still be coming from this franchise. You can buy the Blu Ray on Amazon and many retail stores like Walmart, Barnes and Noble and Best Buy.
WILD FAITH: HASTINGS is getting some momentum. HOT ROD LOVE will soon be officially announced on the development slate. We have Pepsi officially onboard and our first investor. We’ll be giving our past investors first opportunity in the new year before opening it to those who’ve given interest in getting involved. Like I said in a meeting this week- we’re building pyramids. These stories will last for generations and they should. I really do like making films that matter. I enjoy films that are just escapism for fun but the older I get I really like the depth. I believe that both can be achieved and much of that starts with the script. I’ve been doing a little bit of screenwriting also but we’ll save that for a different day. We have a few projects developing with young filmmakers and opportunities to grow that next ring of branches at CDI. I have a few potentially big meetings first of the year including one requiring me to jump on a plane across the country. I’m just happy I’m not flying during this time of the year. But in 2024 I’ll jump on a jet and try to kickstart a few new films.
Speaking of 2024- I’m really spending some time recharging and refocusing. I usually make a set of proposed goals and I already have a few in mind. I’m pretty disciplined but that is going to become even more-so in the new year. At 53 I feel like I’m still moving towards my peak. What’s really helping me is the wisdom I’ve accumulated over the years. I know myself very well. I know what I like and what I don’t. What I will tolerate and what I won’t. Mistakes of my past have become vital experience used to achieve success. I’m very excited about 2024 and I hope you are as well. ‘Be the change you want to see’ is a good statement I’ve heard recently used. What I want for Christmas is comfort for those dealing with loss. Peace on earth and goodwill amongst men (and women). Love, unity and understanding- even for a day. If it can start with a day it can grow into more but it takes a step. 2024 doesn’t have to be division filled if we learn to respect one another including learning to respectfully disagree. Anyone preaching or proclaiming hate should not be a leader. And they are only empowered by followers so trust your heart and follow only that. Skip the slights and insults and instead just communicate. Thank you for almost a year of us meeting once a week to think and ponder together. My last blog of the year will be New Year’s Eve. I look forward to joining with all of you again next week and the year beyond.

NEW ‘Silent Night in Algona,’ trailer, ‘For the Love of Catch’ DVD and more…
Good morning. I’m sipping the hazelnut coffee and enjoying the last few days of October, one of my favorite months. I’m a bit slow getting going as I stayed up a bit later last night watching my alumni school MSU play U of M. Not there year, but it started pretty exciting. Cleaning. Organizing, Winterizing. The leaves are almost all done and I’ve been staying on top of those. I’m still cutting wood in prep for the winter ahead. I actually finally bottled my Frankenwine, finishing with either a raspberry or blueberry in the bottom. I like using a berry of fruit versus just adding a sweetener. The Frankenwine was made with raspberry, black raspberry, mulberry and a touch of hops. I tried it and while it’s strong, it is very drinkable.
I had to get some antifreeze and a new battery for the “Black Mamba,” my ride. I can saw that I’ve never really been a car guy. I like cool designs and such but really I just need reliable A to B transportation. My old Saturn Due is customized to my liking and has very low miles but now it’s ready for winter. Some folks are really into their cars. I could just not imagine driving some of these house on wheels, cars. I’m also going to wait a good decade before considering an electric car. I have friends that work in fire safety and new guidebooks are being done to deal with auto crashes containing lithium batteries. So I think I’ll just wait a few before going in that direction.

- Conversations have happened about another doc in the For The Love Of Catch series. We’ll be looking at gathering the needed resources this winter for Spring 2023 shooting. A promotion event was also discussed but more on that later.
- November 1st also begins the holiday window which is perfect for watching THE QUEST TRILOGY. Three films, Forty Nights, Chasing the Star and The Christ Slayer. We’ll start promoting them and one of them has hit a new benchmark at Encourage TV. (Passing TWO MILLION VIEWS) Again, that is only one platform. When you add up all the platforms, DVD’s and broadcast we’re at tens of millions. We thank you all and hope your family will watch these classics together.
- We’ll have some big announcements coming concerning, Harsens Island Revenge. Some establishing shots will be filmed on the island and maybe a scene or two but having to rely on a ferry for schedules and/or getting last minute needed supplies, isn’t good for production. Right now, we have a town that we’re seriously looking at to double for parts of our island. Having interiors that haven’t changed too much from 1926 is also key. I’m about to start next week on my final script polish with our soon-to-be announced director. Once it is locked, my hands are off as a writer. We’re looking at a few key roles in the script now but will be opening up to looking at reels and doing reads this winter. We will be shooting in Oct/Nov 2023 and we’re all very excited about this roaring 1920’s story.
- Staying with writing, I am over half way through on my first draft of SPIRIT LAKE MASSACRE. This will be the follow up project to film in Iowa. We don’t have any dates set as of right now just getting a powerful script is the goal.
- SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA, is the front and center. The music and sound design is getting closer to done. Our composer Dennis Therrian, is scoring a beautiful soundtrack. Color correction is about done and the VFX are being finalized. Our editor/VFX supervisor will be coming in to help marry everything together mid November. I see some grilling in our fall future out at the ole Pine Studio.
- Additionally, a new two and half minute SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA theatrical trailer is almost done. We had some major director/producer meetings this week over adjusting a few shots in the trailer. We’re all so close to it all but I sincerely think folks will love it. It will be shown at AFM market to a few networks and foreign territories. Home video will be on the lead up to the holidays next year in 2023.
- But starting in December many will be able to see SILENT NIGHT IN ALGONA, in theaters. We’re working with the town of Algona in setting up a premiere showing and afterglow on December 9th. Following our premiere, public showings will start at the Fridley Theaters, starting with Algona. The plan is to start with 2 weeks of showing and some companies are planning to buy blocks of tickets for their employees to go watch together. That’s a great idea. I know other theatre chains in the Iowa, Michigan and the midwest are being talked to. I’m just so happy with the final product. It is a beautiful story of unity, healing and hope that many people could use about now. Soon, my friends. Please do feel free to call Fridley theaters and encourage them to get movie times for the public shows listed.
- This week, I have to send out one of the Knight Chills masters to see if we can get a better initial transfer. This is for the special Blu-Ray being put together for 2023.
- Ghost Town, is also getting the digital enhancement treatment and a new 2023 release trailer is being cut. I’m excited to revisit that film with it being digitally enhanced. The Smoky Mountain western will ride again!
I might be missing an update or two but there is a good ten point snap shot of our most current updates. To all the ghosts and goblins, be safe tomorrow night while collecting candy. I remember those days fondly. In elementary school, we had parades and classroom parties. I feel bad that the children don’t get to do that anymore.
